Good Deal on Lexar 16GB Jump Drives

->> We give each one of our schools a jump drive dedicated to their school. I found a great deal on the Lexar 3.0 16GB drives at HMB Distributors in Brooklyn. They are just $4.99 each. Phone number is 718-676-7718. Ask for Joseph, tell him Sam from WV said to call.

->> Have you dealt with them before? That is a really good price but I worry about getting counterfeit stuff.

The best deal I have seen lately is the Lexar V20 4-pack of 8 GB drives for $15.69. They are nice because they have a little paper inset that you can write/print on and slide behind a little window on the drive.

->> Microcenter http://www.microcenter.com/ is giving away one 32G flash drive and four 16G flash drives (to be given to your friends) to people on their mailing list. They had the same deal last year.

->> Not one word on write-read speeds when discussing these "deals". I am the cheapest freaking consumer in the world. Drives my folk crazy. But on hard drives, jump drives, SD or CF cards, I don't chisel. This is one area that you get EXACTLY what you pay for. Burst mode settings are moot if you don't have a card fast enough to handle the throughput. The slower the card the cheaper the price. There is a lockstep relationship between old, slow cards and the new ones. Plus, I avoid knock-offs by not chiseling every cent off these items. And stay with the top brand names like SanDisk (my choice) and Lexar. These would be basically the only two brands I would buy. The times I've deviated I paid dearly. Had a Hoodman CF card once that I let a salesman convince me these were the Sherman Tank of CF cards. NOT! I got about a year out of it before it went dead.

Do NOT make price your main consideration when buying any kind of storage.

->> Ditto to both Sam and Phil but for different apples to oranges reasons. If the purpose is to hand out jump drives to schools as a means of image transfer like burning a CD, then cheap works. However, if you're relying on drives, cards, HDs, etc. for your business' workflow then bite the bullet and pay for quality merchandise that will be reliable and won't easily die.

->> They came to me in Lexar packaging, not an off brand repackage deal.
And yes, I have been dealing with this company for over 5 years, and the peolpe there for over 10 years.
