I'm sure we could all give them a few ideas on how to clamp things down. Ya think?

This story from the 2015 Super Bowl immediately came to mind:

I counted at least eight fake passes that evening. The imposters were later caught and escorted from the field. If memory serves me right the school was put on probation and could not play in the football state finals if they made it in the next academic season. The following year the Illinois association then changed the design of the passes to make them harder forge.

->> Doug, my guess is someone posted a pic of their credential on social media bragging about their life. I'm guilty of doing that many years ago, but realized how stupid it is and how it allows something like this to happen.

I believe I read a while back that someone had their Super Bowl creds revoked from posting them on social media prior to the game.

->> The Z-man did that in the early 70's before there was a constant threat of an attack at these events, can look back now and laugh but the fact some kid was able to do this so easily today is disturbing. Lot has changed over 40 years, much of what you got away with, or got a minor slap on the wrist for, is jail time now. I've seen people sneak down to the field using fake passes a lot, never know their intentions.

->> Mike, their intentions are simple: They are jock sniffers. They just want to brag to their friends over beers how great they are and how close they got to the action. I see dozens of these clowns every year. Same jerks who give $20 to the alumni association and brag they are HUGE donors to the program. You wanna cheat the system go ahead, but you will pay for it i the end. Karma is a .....

->> This is exactly why when you get credentials for the Academy Awards, they make you wear them facing backwards if you are walking around public areas. They also make you sign something saying you won't post photos of the credential to social media. I believe they also threaten to pull the credential if you are caught walking around Hollywood with the credential facing outward.

->> Sam, in most cases that's true, but what I was saying is you just never know if they are actual jock sniffers or have something a bit more worrisome in mind. There's a guy shooting this year who was banned not long ago, but he does it free so allowed back in. Two others have had players considering restraining orders and calling the police, but again they work free so allowed to shoot. It's to the point you wonder if they will someday snap going from jock sniffer to gunman! Too many crazies.

The person holding the pass is Raleigh Souther? He's changed since I last saw him in '94.

->> Let's face it even without US taking a closeup of our credentials and posting to social media the reality is that we are all walking around with them in plain view for anyone else to grab a shot.

Starting last year I started wearing my credentials backwards and only flipping them over when a security challenge takes place. I've gotten a decent amount of flack for it too.... After explaining my reason I've only had one event tell me that I couldn't wear them that way and HAD TO have them on display the whole time.

Personally I am REALLY surprised that more credentials aren't chipped with RFID tags (I know ONE event that has their field access credential tagged with rfid chips... ONE). Seems like it's really the only way to make a secure credential.
