->> Wow,
This is huge for newspaper shooters. Thank you for posting. So much for EyeFi and their crummy interface, although I'm suspecting that may be Apple's fault for not allowing them to make a decent app.
Let's hope this works well and is useful.

->> Will, you don't even need to do that if you have a camera that can shoot to SD cards. I just looked through their store and Apple has a cable that is an SD reader to lightning port cable. It looks like you can just plug your SD card straight in and go. I'm ordering one today, will let you know how it works.

->> Andrew, that is the main problem I have had using the camera cable connector with the Ipad over the years. Unless you know exactly which photo you want to use it's a little tough negotiating through a big shoot because the photos are so small (think the smallest viewing size in Photo Mechanic). I can't imagine how small thumbnails will look on a phone...

->> I agree with Chuck, having done with an iPad. But only being issued a very high spec, but heavy early full size iPad, it was a real pain to carry. Little easier than carrying a 13 inch MacBook. By the time I'd finished struggling with the "keypad" on the iPad I was really wishing for the computer and the speed of PhotoMechanic.

I think as Chuck says picking the photos will be a pain but the beauty of being able to do so with gear that is always in my pocket and ditching the troublesome eyefi cards will be wonderful. I'm really lucky to have a company iPhone 6 so a decent size screen and an older unlimited data plan. I'm really looking forward to this.

->> BTW...I have an Ipad mini....so it's not as clunky as the original Ipad...our deadlines now are horrendous and I feel sure at those pesky 9-915 pm start times I will be sitting on the baseline sending photos from the Ipad...One "work around" I think might work is that if I get a really nice shot to automatically download it then....no searching through the a lot of thumbnails....just grab the last frame....but as Simon mentioned captioning is an issue also. This is a great tool but in my experience with it NOT for high volume amounts of photos. Of course the best situation is if I use my D750 at the game and use the internal wifi edit on the ipad...you can actually see them full size then grab them to image. It still amazes me that Nikon and Canon can put wifi on their cheaper cameras (and point and shoots) but on the top of the line stuff you have to spend another $1000 to get that option....

->> Andrew,

Are you using the Pro version of the EyeFi cards to get only the tagged ones to go across?

It drives me crazy that the WiFi transmitters for the top end cameras are so expensive. I wonder if its the all metal bodies not allowing a radio signal to get through? The EyeFi cards seem to have very very short range in a 1Dx. I bought one of the Canon WiFi transmitters for it last year and could not get it to connect to my phone. A complete waste of money, so I sold it.

It's refreshing to have a useful conversation here with others struggling with the same issues.

->> Had a trip to the big city to day and bought an Apple SD reader with a lightening plug. Updated my iPhone 6 to IOS 9.2 and it works just great as Matthew says. I can even record video with a 1Dx and copy that over to the phone and edit the video in iMovie on the phone. I think I'm really going to like this.

One slight hitch with the video coming from the 1Dx. I run my camera with raws going to a CF card in slot 1 and .jpgs going to an SD card in an adapter in slot 2. In this configuration there doesn't appear to be any menu driven control as to where the video will get stored. When I first recorded video after formatting both cards, the video went to the CF card in slot 1 with the raws. But if I took the CF card out and shot some video with only the sd card in place it of course went to the SD card. When I put the CF card back in and shot some more video, it still went to the SD card.

If you were counting on shooting video and getting it on the SD card you would have to be careful to make sure you knew where the video was going to end up. I would hate to be at breaking news, shoot some video and have it end up on cf card I could get it off to the phone.

Sounds like Canon needs a firmware update to make this a menu driven thing if they can.

->> Correction,

What is happening is that the video will be recorded to whichever folder is set up to be the playback folder. You can force it to switch by pulling that card an shooting the video to the other card. But the key thing is the playback designation. I'm just learning to shoot video on the DSLR so a bit of a newbie here on this. Been doing all my video on a mirrorless with only one sd slot.

What is the best App to use on the phone for edit and captioning? I have several photo editing apps what do you all recommend?

->> There is a way to get only tagged images to the phone. It is the same way I transferred photos with the eyefi card. My camera has dual card slots. I shoot to one, then copy only the tagged images to the other sd card. I then take that card out and use the apple sd card reader to import them to the phone.
