Baseball Hall of Fame?

->> I've had the pleasure of photographing Dick Enberg for a long time. Congrats for getting into the baseball hall of fame last week. My question is when will a photographer get in? I grow up read the LA Time Jim Murray and he's in. Can't really remember an a story years later. I can remember a ton of great baseball photos of the years. So will I see a photographer make it in during my life time?

->> Good question Matt. Following is a short version of my answer. I can give you the hour long story in person :-)

Rich Pilling organized a meeting with our former MLB picture editor Paul Cunningham and myself to begin the groundwork of discussing this very topic with Jeff Idelson from the Hall of Fame during the 2001 World Series at Yankee Stadium. This was before Jeff was president of the HOF. The four of us continued to have discussions and met again at the 2004 All-Star Game in Houston.

We formed a committee and came up with an official proposal written by Jeff himself. The award would be named after Charles Conlon, the father of baseball photography. This is a very political process. The HOF committee with guys like Frank Robinson, etc. on it voted down our proposal several years ago. We are not giving up. I am not giving up. I personally talked with Jeff Idelson about this again in Cooperstown two months ago. I believe it will happen some day. I am not giving up. Rich Pilling is not giving up. We have the president of the HOF on our side. There is much more to come on this story.

->> I knew there was a technical term for him that I was not aware of.

Seriously, there are many outstanding photographers in the SS community that have made significant contributions to all professional sports over the years. They all belong in the hall of fame.
