Anybody using printed thumb drives?
Mark Perlstein, Photographer, Photo Editor

->> Looking for recommendations for budget priced thumb drives printed with my name and website. 8 and 16 gb drives. The dual layered DVD are not always big enough, and fewer people have built in dvd drives.

->> I use digital downloads to deliver images to clients. It's faster, easier and cheaper. I don't waste time driving around town to deliver images and the clients have them right away. The download is available for 30 days as needed and then there is a $50 charge for another download link if they didn't save the images. It also works out nicely because in the state I'm currently in (and the last couple I've lived in) I don't have to charge sales tax as long as I don't deliver a physical product like a thumb drive. Not having to collect sales taxes is worth it alone.

->> Downloads via a private Photoshelter gallery that has a deadline for doing so -- usually 30 days. Doing so is like having a return receipt/delivery memo as the file transfers are recorded when they are downloaded.

->> There may be a nicer way to say this, but frankly I was shocked at the responses. Very self centered and not client centered responses.

Wasting time driving around town assumes you don't get paid to do that. Many times clients cannot get a really good internet connection or they just don't want to waste a lot of time on the internet.

Many clients also maybe only on their phone for internet and don't want the data charges.

Point being when someone asks about Printed Thumb Drives and you have no experience not sure telling us your way is better answers the question of the post.

Here is my point: who are the photos for and who is paying? If it is the client and not you then why do you tell them your way or the highway. Why not cater to your client and charge appropriately?

This is how you increase your income. Think service! Be the photographer who will do whatever the client wants and then just charge appropriately. Have options for pricing.

->> We use Pexagon and have had a great relationship with them for a couple of years now. In addition to company website, they have photoflashdrive.com and are regularly running sales. We usually wait for one to come along on the product we want and order in bulk. Customer Service is really solid too.

->> Ditto to Stanley!

I said downloads because of the economics and ease of delivery which most of my clients want. Some still want CD/DVD hard copies which I gladly provide too. Giving the clients what they want is the number one no brainer for making them happy
