Cool Gear

->> Shooting a Volleyball match over the weekend I saw several Nikon shooters with a really cool D shaped plastic handle attached to some of their long glass. I'm not familiar with Nikon gear, but the lens looked to be the size of a Canon 300 2.8. The handle was attached to the pod foot and it swiveled so that it could be in line with the lens or at a 90 degree angle. It was made of plastic and moved with the pod foot ring around the lens if desires.

Being in the sticks, I don't always get to see the latest and greatest gadgets. So, does anyone know what this thing is? I don't have a photo, was too busy with the action on the court. I've emailed a couple of the sponsors and they are so far stumped. The only guys that had them were from the city on the lake...

Look at using the Equipment help, but I'd have had to check mark way too many boxes :(

So, what other types of cool gear are people seeing?

->> Yes that looks cool. The problem I'm seeing with it (and maybe I'm wrong, I have been known to be wrong occasionally) BUT....if you're shooting something that requires a monopod (like football, hockey, soccer...etc....it's pretty useless. you're going to have to remove it to attach the monopod. and quite frankly I have other things I'd rather spend $150 on than a handle that attaches to the handle on the 200-400 to carry into basketball.....

->> You are correct Chuck. While searching for the one I saw, I did find others that actually let you attach the monopod/tripod. I was looking more for something to use at basketball where there isn't much room and a monopod is a bit risky. This had enough meat on it for you to get at least some stability.

I came to the same conclusion after looking at the replacement. It was worth - at best - a third of the asking price.

The DIY in me may come up with something, but it isn't high on my priority list. Still tweaking a replacement collapsible hood for my 600 f4. then one for my 70-200.

->> Eric, one more widget to buy 'cause it is something to buy that you do not have already. Then 2 years later you try to sell it in the classified ads on ss.com due to the fact that you used it once for a middle school football game and it has sat ever since on a shelf...in the original box.

The only thing I can think of is if you need it for venues that do not allow monopods.

->> Sam that sounds about right... And ya at venues where mono's are out yup I'd put my 200-400 on it or maybe a 600mm.... ::rolls eyes::
