Maverick OS

->> Hi all, I've been getting a Maverick OS update popup on my Mac Pro for a couple weeks now asking me to download the free update. I'm still using the 10.6.8 OS and wondering if there have been any conflicts with early gen software and external hard drives such as Western Digital?

I'm using Photoshop CS3 and 4, Final Cut Pro 6, Photo Mechanic, Indesign, and Illustrator to name a few.

Thoughts, experiences with the update? I figure eventually I'm going to have to do it but wanted to check in with other Mac users first.

Thank you.

I don't know about Final Cut Pro 6, I'm using the current version of Final Cut.

There have been some issues with Mavericks Mail and Gmail, I don't use Mail (I use a third party app called Postbox) so I can't speak to the email issues.

->> Updated to Mavericks a while back and my only issue has been my misunderstanding of a few things in Mail. All my back-ups work, all my OSX programs work, I test PS4 before I responded and it worked. I would only wonder if PS4 still updates since PS has gone to the cloud. It takes a bit of time to get all the updates for your programs, but it is important to do. I would recommend the update.
Good Luck

Only difference is which frequencies that are able to use.

I had no problems like the ones you describe.
So i think you should contact Canon/CPS about your problems.

->> Sorry about the above post.
Wrong thread.
(To bad that i can´t remove that post).

About OS X Mavericks.
I have run it for a while.
And love it.

But i do think it´s a good idea to upgrade your software to Creative Cloud.

->> I had a big problem with Photoshop when I upgraded to OS a while back... it would crash when you tried to open any file.

Found out to fix that problem I had to remove the Microsoft Office fonts folder from the System Library ... I had recently upgraded to MS Office 2011.

Go figured.

->> Be sure you back everything up before you upgrade, just in case.

You don't mention it but if you have Carbon Copy Cloner (www.bombich.com), you'll need an upgrade.

From 10.8 onwards, you need version 3.5 (commercial product) or later. 3.4.7 (the donationware version) works for OSX 10.7 or earlier.

Any advantage to CCC over time machine?

And ... Evidently you can run FCP 7 on a Mavericks OS machine. It's a very tricky, complicated install to get it working. Obviously Apple has zero support for this, but reading several FCP forums, it's been done and quite successfully.

As Jack pointed out, Time Machine backups are not bootable. SuperDuper lets you boot directly from the backup. So does CCC. That's a huge timesaver.

SuperDuper still has a free version (ver 2.7.2) that works on Mavericks. (

->> I appreciate the feedback guys. Hi Ben, I've used Carbon Copy Cloner before. I'll do it again before updating.

It's a shame Apple didn't include earlier versions of FC with Maverick. I assume I'll have issues with the entire FC Studio if I do update.Way too risky for now and I don't really have the funds to upgrade to 10 either. Better to leave my desktop computer with Snow Leopard since it's what i use most for editing video.

I'll update my laptop with Maverick instead. Hopefully it doesn't mess things up too much.

Thanks.

->> One thing I learned about Mavericks the hard way is that now that it's an install from iTunes, if you happen to crash it from a used computer and someone else has installed it, you can't re-install it unless you have access to their iTunes account. I ended up returning a MacPro because of that. I couldn't find a workaround ... Cost me $100 in shipping.
