Retiring
David Rossiter, Photographer

->> Just wanted to let the SS community know that I have retired from my newspaper photojournalist job at The Lethbridge Herald after being on staff for three decades. I consider myself so fortunate to have been able to work in this business, max out my pensions and leave on my own terms. I turned 65 this month and decided to call it a career. To work through and embrace the changes from b&w, to colour neg, then going fully digital 15 years ago and adding video and social media to mix as been an incredible journey. We all at one time or another cover world class events, meet famous people and do incredible things (like flying an F16 !) but it's the meeting and photographing everyday folk in their time of both tragedy and triumph that makes the biggest impact. For all those thousands of people who have let me into their lives, even for a brief moment I am eternally grateful. SS members thank you for all your support, inspiring portfolios and advice. I have some select freelance clients that I will continue to make pictures for and some personal projects I will work on so my Nikons won't be on eBay anytime soon. But for now - Bring on the World Cup - I'm not getting off the sofa from June 12 to July 13th !

->> It has been my honour to have been the other half of the photography department at the Lethbridge Herald with David. Even though I've already seen him since, the building somehow felt different the moment he walked out the door on the day of his last shift.
Big shoes to fill, for sure!
