Problem with Lexar 64GB 1100x XQD + D4S?
Gary Jones, Photographer

->> The photographer who works with me had an apparent failure with his Lexar 1100x XQD card + D4s. Three hours of shooting, over 2000 images, only 262 could be read off the card. Lexar quoted 8-12 weeks to attempt recovery, and no replacement until after the attempt. Not sure why they wouldn't replace as soon as they receive the card. Anyway, Dave will return it after trying Lexar's Image Rescue tool. Anyone have some recovery tips I can pass on to Dave before he returns the card?

Gary

->> Gary -

One tip to pass along is that Image Rescue works best (only?) with Lexar card readers. At least that's been my experience.

->> I've been having a run of back luck with Lexar cards. When I decided to move up to XQD I decided to simply go with the Sony cards. It killed me to spend $400+ on a memory card (64gb) but it has been 100% reliable.

->> There have been problems with the D4S and certain batches of Lexar 400x and 1000x Cards. I had a bunch replaced pretty quickly. See below:

->> Images from the returned 1100x 64GB XQD card were restored by Lexar (many weeks after the event in April). Yesterday Dave had another failure with the same model card, although I would assume Lexar wouldn't have returned the same defective card. He could chimp the images on camera but no images when connected through the card reader. Re-inserted card into the camera, and no images displayed but "remaining" shots was 684, indicating used filespace but somehow corrupted file system.

Googling around it looks like there was a period where this XQD model wasn't available, but I do see it now as in stock at B&H. No email response from Lexar yet.

->> I just used card rescue to recover some pics off a card today. Can't say it will work for you, but it only costs $40 and it shows you what it found before you have to buy it...

->> After losing several batches of photos and replacing my Lexars 32GB cards 3 times by mailing them back to Lexar for free replacements, I replaced everything with SanDisk Pro and haven't had any problems since. Its only my D4S the failures are happening in, then the cards become unusable.

->> I was privately emailed by Lexar after they must have read about my displeasure with their cards and they included this link. Basically they are recalling certain cards that are not compatable with Nikon D4s. https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18893

I am aware of the Lexar CF card issues, but this is the first time I've heard of an issue with Lexar XQD cards.
