Cable from Camera to iPhone Transfer?
John Todd, Photographer

->> Anyone know of a cable or software that would allow direct transfer of images from Nikon to iPhone? Rather than using Eye Fi, or a CamRanger, just a straight transfer?

The ideal workflow would be to shoot tethered to your iPhone, keeping your network open for direct live ftp transfer during events.

Thanks!

->> yes. it's called the camera cable. I know they make them for the newest ipad and the iphone5. but unless you're going to send the un-imaged files you are going to be dealing with a massive amount of data which will be VERY tough to deal with.

->> John, there's no way to shoot "tethered" as you might be used to with a computer or CamRanger/Eye-Fi. The iOS API just doesn't allow for it. Best you can do is shoot a burst, hook up a cable, download those, shoot more, download, repeat. The cable just lets the iPhone/iPad "see" the current contents of the memory card and download them, but won't download new images on the fly...only what's available when the cable is connected.

->> It would just be an iPhone to Mini-USB cable. Unless Nikon using MicroUSB. Dunno, I'm a Canon person and they use Mini.

As well as the USB to mini/micro/whatever your camera needs.

->> So, when I plug up the above mentioned cable from either my Canon 1DX or 5D Mk III to my iPhone, I get a "device not recognized" (or something like that) on my iPhone. Is an app needed? Or am I missing something? There is a Canon app, but I think that's for their P&S's.
Thanks,
John
