monopod with carryon bags on flight?
Chad Lightner, Photographer

->> Hi everyone, I'm flying out tomorrow to shoot a game on Saturday and am planning to carry on a backpack (small) and a lowepro trekker 400 (which dimensionally is supposed to fit as carryon), but have a Manfrotto 685 monopod that I'm trying to figure out how to take also. Can I just attach it to my lowepro and get through fine or do I need to possibly plan to send it as checked (have the shipping box that I received it in)? I'm considering taking it apart also if I have to. Any thought appreciated....:)

thanks,
Chad

->> I have never had an issue with just carrying it on, with the think tank rollers you cant really get your bag in the overhead with the monopod still on the side but if you just take it out and put it up with the bag, it's not an issue, just don't forget it up there!

->> Thanks guys, there was absolutely no issue at all. The last time I had flown (just after 9/11) security went through every piece of camera gear I had, took off lens caps, and nearly dropped a couple of lens, so i was a little paranoid with this trip since I had some bigger lenses and more gear.

thanks,
Chad
