Photoshelter FTP Down?
Scott Serio, Photo Editor, Photographer

->> My server access has been down for most of the weekend. I have sent an email to Photoshelter, but it is the weekend, I am not expecting a response. Anyone else? I can get in through the front door and do direct uploads, just not FTP vi Photo Mechanic or Cute FTP or any other FTP client.

->> So...the quickest way to get Photoshelter to respond is to say on Sportsshooter they aren't. The response I received was that my FTP was disabled. Sure enough, it was. Well, I didn't uncheck it, so I am banking on a systemwide glitch. Go here and see if your FTP is disabled. Make sure you are logged in...

->> Thursday I could not upload via Photo Mechanic. I kept getting this: "Connecting to PhotoShelter, attempting login..." and it never left that prompt.

Last night (Sunday night) I was able to upload 55 images via Photo Mechanic without a hiccup.

Just now (Monday morning) I'm getting the "Connecting to PhotoShelter, attempting login..." error again.

This has been happening for about a year.

""We couldn't find a user account with that email address.""

I am up to date and paid, and have been with them since they originated the site....

Weird...I love the site and the service, this is the first interruption I have had....but I am on deadline.....bad timing....

Can any of you log in right now?
Thx

->> See my post above...see if you FTP privileges were deactivated. I didn't uncheck mine, but it was unchecked. If others are experiencing the same thing, they have a glitch. Period.

Log in to your Photoshelter and go here to see

http://www.photoshelter.com/mem/upload/ftp

If it doesn't say Enabled/Yes, click EDIT and click that tab.

All I know is that I didn't unclick it, so something is amiss.

->> Hi Folks,

Everyone take a deep breath. First there is nothing wrong with the FTP system on PhotoShelter - it's up and running and there have been no other reports of problems. Scott's issue was his inbound ftp connection option was disabled in his account and has since been re-enabled by him. There is not a greater issue here or system wide.

Secondly - If you are having a problem with your PhotoShelter account the only way to get the support you need is by contacting PhotoShelter us directly.
http://www.photoshelter.com/contact

PhotoShelter's support team is great and available by email and phone and always willing to help. Using SportsShooter as a support mechanism is not what you should do because in this case the individual "problems" being listed here causes a hysteria that's totally unrelated to each other and not indicative of a system issue but rather local problems isolated to individual accounts.

Alex - I will be contacting you through the PhotoShelter support mechanism once I have had a chance to look at your account.

Cheers!

->> Mike,

Thanks for checking in. However, I have to tell you, I've been a user of PhotoShelter since 2009 and I'm telling you that for about a year I've had trouble uploading via Photo Mechanic. Sometimes I get right in and sometimes it gets hung up. This happens with both of my laptops and with my office computer.

PhotoShelter is a great product and has been a real asset to my business since 2009 so I've learned to live with it and when it gets stuck I simply use the desktop uploader or transmit to clients using another product; problem solved. This being said then, I would have to respectfully disagree the suggestion that there's simply nothing wrong with it. I'm a fairly savvy user of, and an ardent advocate for, the product and I'm telling you that I've been having this issue for some time.

Respectfully,

-Blanco

->> Mine is back up....
Confusion on both ends....

I changed my site a few weeks back to the Beam platform on Photoshelter.
There was a problem with the "Contact" page/tab on my site, so I updated it to a new email contact address.....changing it from the one I have used since the inception of Photoshelter when I signed up years ago.

Weird part is that I was able to upload files at the beginning of the week using the OLD log in email and password, and then last night when I had to upload files for a client, I was denied access.
I tried to log in on 3 different computers using the OLD email, just as I always had.

Not even thinking that I had to use the NEW email, I thought that there was a problem on the Photoshelter host site, though my images that are already there were still showing.

Unfortunately, this was past 6pm and the support line was closed for the evening, that is when I turned here and saw this post about Photoshelter, thinking that some others may have the same problem.

I have since received 3 emails and one phone call this morn to troubleshoot and remedy the situation. All is up and running and I am back to work.

Thanks to all that helped.

->> Interesting....and maybe this is the issue.

I tested some of the templates for Beam, but ultimately chose to keep the Classic layout I had. Is it possible the in-bound FTP got unchecked when I did that?

Mike...respectfully...maybe this was the issue, but in the computer world, things just don't uncheck themselves. So, maybe it is good idea to figure out what the source of that is. Interestingly, you say we shouldn't troubleshoot together HERE, but, it might be just that that unearths the glitch if it is the Beam situation.

As one of the folks on here who, quite vociferously, tried to help others through that debacle of an upgrade, I am not a real fan of your coming on here and just trying to diminish whatever this problem is to user error - with me being the user. There are tons of Photoshelter users on here. When your customer service is bad, we point it out. When it is great, as it eventually ended up with the upgrade, we let everyone know.

There is a glitch. Maybe it is in the fact I tested Beam and switched back. That said, the box didn't uncheck itself and I certainly didn't touch it.

->> Mike...sometime in the past year (I can't remember when) I had a similar issue with the FTB becoming "unchecked" for some reason. Just like Scott and Brain I am 100% confident that I didn't manually make that change.

I called in to tech support and they figured it out within a couple of minutes.

->> BB,

I have the same issue trying to upload from photo mechanic. After several tries, I simply don't upload from PM. To be fair I have neither addressed this with the folks at PM(camerabits) or PS. I have used the web uploader, I log in, go to upload and let the images fly. No FTP, no 3rd party software, nothing. It always works and if I'm at home it's pretty damn fast.

I hope it helps.

On a different note, pardon my ignorance, what is the reason for using FTP? I understand, when a client has a specific folder on their servers, but why use it to upload to PS?

Looking forward to the answer.

thanks,

A-

->> FTP to Photoshelter is quick and easy. If you have a big folder structure, as I do, it can take a while to find the correct folder to hit. When I am at a big event, I don't want to think. I set up the folder early, make it LIVE, send a test transmission to aim Photo Mechanic and then use the Save, Upload & Advance function after I caption my edited images. It is very convenient.

You are correct, you could use Photoshelter's native uploader, or Zenfolio's uploader or even drag and drog. I think for those of us who use FTP for multiple destinations, we just default to FTP because it is quick and clean and we don't want to throw a curveball into our workflow.
