->> PJ,

You should take bicycles. Montreal and all of Quebec have awesome bike trails. Somewhere in the old city there was a bike shop where I was able to get maps. Quebec City is about three hours east and worth the trip.

->> Thanks.

Quebec City is on the list. I think bikes should be readily available in Montreal and will be an easy way to get around. Looking forward to getting there.

->> Friends of mine have a bike rental + tour business located on the Lachine Canal across from the Atwater Market. They are a great resource for cycling info - http://mybicyclette.ca/

Great city, a bunch of great places to explore, has the old world feel in Old Montreal, Mont Royal, rapids surfing and student protests!

Great food spots!

Also great beer, try Fin du Monde (end of the world) and Blanche du Chambly.

Also for something uniquely Canadian, try Sortilege, Canadian Whiskey blended with Maple Syrup liquor, great on ice cream or simply in a glass chilled.

For the best smoked meat sandwich and cole slaw on the planet earth.
http://schwartzsdeli.com/ it is well worth the long lines.

Second best sandwich... :
http://www.chenoys.com/about%20us.html known for a huge cheesecake slice ( strawberry )

You will never have a tastier bagel than this place:
http://www.fairmountbagel.com/ and wow did they have great website designed for them..

For bars,plus excellent pubs and great looking women with fun crowds/clothes shops anywhere on this street * Rue St. Laurent Blvd Try to book a hotel on this blvd Downtown Montreal.

The old Olympic stadium is pretty cool now as they turned the West side of it into huge fish,bird and flower exhibit.

Stay away from areas such as Laval, unless you can speak french very well or you are an excellent street fighter.

->> Ron, one thing us Montrealer's debate non stop is smoked meat, and I must say that Smoke Meat Pete's destroys Schwartz's. The Main, directly across from Schwartz's is excellent as well.

->> Settling in and learning my way around the city. Already tried poutine and hit the Fairmount and St-Viateur today for bagels. Amazed at the line out the door and down the sidewalk at Schwartz's Deli . . . will have to try it and Tim's suggestion, too.

Probably could spend the entire time here eating my way through the city. Glad I don't have a car, at least I can get some exercise walking around (and using the Bixi, which is on my list of things to do, along with at stop at Lozeau's camera store, the Canadiens Hall of Fame and Centre Bell for hockey games).

More suggestions appreciated.

->> Hey PJ, Try Photo Service on Notre-Dame in Old Montreal instead of Lozeau...better customer service. I have been refused service at Lozeau because I didn't speak to them in French...some high and mighty salesperson who has since cost the store thousands in lost sales!
