->> I´m seriously questioning if there ever will be a stop of my problems with "professional" Canon gear...

I have easily said had more than my fair share of troubles with the so called "Canon Professional Services".

Will it ever end?

->> @Ting, no i haven't had to wait one month to get my gear back.

But i had a 7D that i sent to CPS here in Sweden three times, and they never got it to work as it should.
So they decided to exchange it for a new one.
And told med that i only had to leave to old one and pick up the new one at the same time att their service center in Gothenburg.
When i got there, i was told that i actually had to wait one week in order to get the new one...
Now Canon did really compensate me well for that things.

And, when my Canon gear works as it should, i really like it, a lot.

Today i had a new experience of "Canon quality".
Working in rain with a 1D mkIV together a 70-200/2,8l IS II USM.
Both supposed to be "weather sealed".
After coming home, and drying my gear with a "clothe", the 1D mkIV started to "fire itself", i didn´t even touch the shutter button...

So i do realy wonder if Canon learnt anything about quality control.
My experience with the 7D, todays experience with the 1D mkIV, and the "service advisory" for the 1Dx.
Is a combination that makes me really put Canon quality and service in question.
At top of that Nikon gear is a lot cheaper.
I would really like to know what Canon are thinking about?

->> Mark IV, 400, 300, Mark III all sent to CPS 5-6x each and every time came back with the same exact problem it went in for. It always seemed like they were randomly replacing parts instead of actually fixing the problem. When asking around found about half a dozen other Canon users who said they were experiencing the same problems with CPS not fixing the gear. Finally came back working right after canceling my CPS membership and telling them how I truly felt. Soon as tested it out to make sure everything was working sold it all off and went to Nikon. I'll take a loaner from NPS and wait two months for my gear any day over having to spend thousands in shipping it back and forth to get "fixed".

->> In life, it is unusual for those who have good experiences spend time talking about it. Weather sealed is relative as I learned when the sky opened up on my 400, 2.8. CPS was actually great with what turned out to be a complex repair. If you cruise this forum you read negatives about both Canon and Nikon, as above. Not certain that there is a clear answer.

->> @daniel,

Sorry about your experience.

It might have something to do with cause you're in Sweden...

As for the weather seal, well, there probably a water deposit on your shutter button and causing the short and trigger.

You mind me ask, how big of a rain was it? and How long were to out there?!

It's usually not the water that kills, but the moisture(which the weather seal cannot defend) that really causes serious issues in electronics.

Well, it's electronics. and shit happens.

Standing atop that is a tiny man holding a large squeegee. Okay, I'm lying about the last part. It's actually a very small squeegee.

Monday is typically the Irvine service center's busiest day. Even with as many as four reps working the counter, I waited an hour, which gave me a chance to listen to many conversations. Three observations:

1) The Canon folks were unfailingly patient and eager to be helpful; never so much as a hint of attitude. 2) They deal with an extremely wide range of issues, everything from pro bodies and lenses to pocket cams to binoculars. 3) They deal with a extremely wide range of owner expertise, everything from pros who could probably teach about the gear, to neophytes who know next to nothing about what they've bought.

None of this qualifies as earth-shaking revelation, but it reminded me that their jobs aren't easy. So far, knock wood, I've never been less than satisfied dealing with them. YMMV, of course.

->> Since the repair of my 1D mkIV takes more than 3 days to be done. I went to CPS in Gothenburg (Sweden) to catch a loaner.

Canon fixed the issue with the "service advisory" while i was waiting.
It took about 10 minutes.
So with that part i had a really good experience.

(Lets just hope that things will end well with my 1D mkIV).

Not gonna complain since my model was a version one and I sent it in broke in half.

->> I had my 1D mkIV back today.
With a probability of 98% the only issue was a small amount of moisture in the release button at the top of the camera.
After a few days indoors att CPS in Gothenburg.
The technician could not find any problem at all.
(The problem was still there when i dropped it off for service).
So probably the moisture was gone.

Anyway, this time CPS handled it in really good way, again.
Actually, i now had so many good experiences with CPS here in Sweden that i have gone from disappointed to happy with CPS.
And about the 1Dx, it truly is an amazing camera.
I really love it.
