TT5 works via test button but not on camera?

->> I'm trying to get Hypersync to work with the TT5. I know my 1Dx is not a supported camera at the moment, so I put it on my 5DMkII and when I took a shot, it didn't fire the remote. Yet, when I hit the test button, the slave worked just fine.
Anyone had an issue like this?? |

| ->> Is the hotshoe turned off on the TT5? Does it work if you connect it to the camera via cable? |

->> Generally that is a case of poor contact connection - either dirty or your hotshoe is loose. I had this problem and found my hotshoe had to be tightened down

| ->> You cant use a Nikon TT5 on a Canon Body. Totally different systems. |

| ->> I had this exact scenario happen with a TT5 on my 1D Mk III the other night. I don't think it was the hotshoe connection though, because I could get a PW MultiMax to fire my lights just fine. When I had the TT5 on the camera, I could see the high speed sync icon in the camera's viewfinder, but the lights still wouldn't fire with the press of the trigger. They fired fine with a press of the sync button though. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I never figured out the issue myself. I'm interested to see if anyone else has a possible solution. |

| ->> My bad. I thought your post read D1x not 1Dx so ignore my post. Too early for the eyes to read correctly . |

| ->> The first thing you should try is firing another frame. I use a mini tt1 to transmit, and they always take 2, sometimes 3 frames to fire the lights the first time. The wizards use the first frame to figure out what they are attached to. I have 7 tt5 units and they all have their own quirks. My attempt to iron that out is to factory reset all the units and change nothing in the software. What unit do you have on your light(s)? |

->> A few things in no particular order...
* For Hypersync to work, all five of the pins on the hot shoe need to make good contact, not just the center pin like on the Multimax (On one of my TT5s a piece of one of the pins got chipped off and it only works intermittently).
* I have not had good luck with the TT5 in Auto Detect mode with new and unsupported cameras.
* As already mentioned, the first frame shot when you turn on the TT5 is a throwaway frame.
* The TT5 is nice when it works but is a colossal PITA to set up. There are several settings that when incorrectly set will keep it from working the way you want.
* If all else fails and you can't get it to work, you can always set the TT5 to basic trigger mode but of course you lose Hypersync and any other advanced features you might want.
* I use the TT5 only for Hypersync and would really appreciate a simplified Hypersync-only idiot setting. |

| ->> Welcome to the unreliable, undependable world of TT5. I get 30-50% failure rate on mine with Nikon D700 and SB800's. And I get 0% failure(100% success) with my PWII Plus. |

->> I talked to PW today. He said to try different shooting modes. Doesn't know why.. but sometimes that makes a difference.
I liked the second guy I talked to there. He gave me the number to LPA Designs in VT and the Tech support extension because he had never heard of my problem (Pocketwizard showing no hardware version and the Utility constantly asking for a serial number.) Anyway, when I have time, I'll screw with it again.. The TT5 that is..
I need to find some cheap, SLOW flashes, I'm thinking the Chinese knockoffs prolly safe to say they have a slow t.1 time to use with Hypersync.... |

->> It sounds like you're getting the support you need.
One best practice I learned on this board is that in order to make the TT5's happy I need to put fresh batteries in before each use. My TT5's are finally working reliably after their non-beta firmware update came out to support 5dIII's |
