->> Perhaps the worst kept secret in retail sales in the presence of a liquidator or GOB (Going Out of Business) company when a company reaches the end of it's string. Regardless of what the signs in the store say, the idea is to entice consumers into handing over as much cash as possible while believing they are getting a deal.
If anyone recalls Circuit City, Borders, Sharper Image and lost of others, the stores all had large banners screaming "DISCOUNT" that gradually increased as time went on. The real deals happened about six weeks in, when the discount prices finally got below retail - on whatever was left. Existing staff are usually paid by the broker to stay and present a front until the last day, but to make any deal "early" a manager usually gets involved - to keep the margin up.
The last days can be interesting if you need shelving, business machines, or light fixtures that aren't considered leasehold improvements. |
