50GB of free storage. Too good to be true?

->> So, Kim Dotcom (recently featured in WIRED mag as the most-wanted hacker or somesuch), has just launched/re-launched his Mega Upload site as mega.co.nz. Supposedly 50GB of free storage, complete privacy (client-side encryption, so the company doesn't know what you've stashed in there)...
Anyone biting the bullet? Any legal eagles sift through the ToS and see if this is worth signing up for? |

->> Don't put anything on it that you can't afford to lose. Kim Dotcom is a legal target for a number of agencies and the site is just as vulnerable as he is.

| ->> Plus do you want to trust your "stuff" to a guy who made his money abusing other people's copyright? I see no upside to this deal for people who value their own work. |

->> Who in their right mind would even consider trusting "the most wanted hacker" to secure their private information?
There is a reason why the best photographers in the world trust Photoshelter. |

->> @Brian Tietz-
I wasn't thinking about this as a replacement or supplement to a service like Photoshelter, more like a Dropbox on steroids for all those cat .gifs I like to send to my friends :) |

->> When will people learn that a deal that is to good to be true, much like having the lowest price, isn't necessarily a good deal?
As Chuck said, nothing is free. Read that again: Nothing is free.
As I have said in training people in sales, FREE is really a question of "where did they hide the weenie?" - the cost is buried somewhere, and you'd better be darn careful until you figure out how. If you can't figure it out, be very, very careful. It's like the old joke about if you can't figure out who the sucker is at the card table when you're playing poker - then the sucker is you. |

->> Some things are free. Citizenship, religion, natural hair color, any Metro newspaper, sunshine.
"Kim Dotcom's storage"? It's free, it's just not worth the cost. |

| ->> Brian - "the most wanted hacker"? I don't know if that's totally accurate...Kevin Mitnick held that title for a long time, and more recently Sabu did. Kim Dotcom, founder of Megaupload, has never been known as the most wanted hacker to the best of my knowledge. |
