| ->> Wondering how I can do a quick view on RAW images in some file or folder view like I can view jpegs.. I am looking for a simple thing where I don't have to import into LR etc. plug in my memory card, do quick scan to see specific files I may want to grab and save to my HD or whatever. I have windoze 7. Ideas? |

->> I recommend the NEF codec -- granted i shoot primarily on the now-dated D700, but it works like a charm for me.
It loads thumbs up to decent size previews during browsing and is compliant with most metadata, allowing you to browse and edit captions right in explorer. |

->> Like Karsten mentioned, you can use the Raw Codec pack. It will let you view thumbnails of the images in the regualr Windows Explorer folder view. Just like you are wanting. Plus it's free!
Nikon has their specific codec available for download here:
http://nikonimglib.com/nefcodec/
Or, you can download the Windows RAW codec pack (all supported cameras) from the MS Download Center.

->> I'd also suggest the Windows codec.
And for the record, it's Windows not Windoze. As someone that works in the IT industry, that drives me crazy. |

->> Hi peoples - after having a look at things suggested, I got the nefcodec thing from Nikon, and it does EXACTLY what I was looking to accomplish........ A fast way to scan through my RAW files in a given folder to be able to quickly select a range of images or an individual image to import into LR etc..
Perfect.
regarding "WINDOZE", er, I know how to spell just fine, I call WINDOZE that on purpose as it at least used to be dog slow, and old habits are hard to break so to speak. I also say write KEWL instead of COOL and scribe a center line across my ZEDs and #7s when I write with a pen or pencil on paper IN ALL CAPS always and no I am not yelling when doing so...
Suggest you try not to get bothered by trivial things such as how I or anyone else chooses to spell or use grammar, there are far more worrisome topics needing your attention in the world. I do not have to fit into your box. |

| ->> i'm really grateful to have found that nefcodec thing - I have been going through folders and such this past several days, and having it has saved me a LOT of time. It seems like I am so much faster and picking photos, importing them into LR and knowing which ones to toss etc. THANKS PEOPLE. |
