->> I love the Daniel Day-Lewis photo.

Just imagine. You're a big Hollywood star, you've been invited to the White House for a screening of your new movie about Lincoln, you're probably feeling pretty full of yourself...

"Hey Daniel", the President says, "Come upstairs and let me show you something". The something? The Lincoln bedroom (formerly Lincoln's office and the place where he signed the Emancipation Proclamation) and the freaking Gettysburg Address.

Snap!

->> Yes, there is a load of history stored there. My wife and I vacationed in DC, pre 9/11, back in '96 and '97, and I've always regretted that I didn't take a White House tour when I had the chance.

Just discovered that the link I supplied was just for page 2 of his Best of 2012 photos. Page 1 link is:

The really impressive ones for me are on this page. So many. Late afternoon sunlight in the Oval Office; signing the little girl's drawing at the Resolute desk; singing with B.B. King; the campaign speech in the rain; driving a Chevy Volt. So much grim history, but also moments of wonderful humor. Bo in pink bunny ears.

->> I'm sure it's a little on the inside-baseball for me -- being in the "industry" and all -- but politics aside, this presidency will be of significant memory for me because of the openness and ease of access to Pete's wonderful body of work covering Obama. It's like a perfect storm, where the right talent and access met technology to create what is a deeply insightful look at the day-to-day of our Commander and Chief. Not that I think anyone from the White House reads this message board (dead lord I hope not, and if so, sorry for all the bad language on my part), but I am continually grateful to them for giving all of us -- photographers, journalists, everybody -- such a cool look in.

->> Mark, good point. One of my former coworkers here at the DMN works for the WH photo staff. You are correct -- they are all doing a fantastic job, and it's great to get a look at it.

Thanks for the correction.
