Second upgrade this year......but something weird

->> Hello again,

I came back from one shop with a new body to my list.

I didn't open the box yet here at home, but as first glance in the shop, the box seems was opened before, the manual is not original at all, it is a photocopy printed out, i don't know what else there i didn't check, i told him don't take everything out, only the body and i assure the letter X is there. On my way back, a salesman called me and told me there is the eye-cup missing, i don't know what he means, but shouldn't that be on the body or at least it is inside the box? What's going on?

How can i be sure now that this body is new BRAND NEW? before i open the box i want to know your opinions about it.

How can i make sure about the shutter counts so at least to feel this body is really new and not used before or opened or even for demo, any clue?

->> Sounds like a returned item. As the previous post says, check the actuations. But if you paid full retail then it should not be in this condition.

I've had that on one occasion ...the camera was obviously a return...the battery was inside the camera, the strap was on the body and the power cord to the charger had been unwrapped and rewrapped.

The store is a reputable dealer. When I pointed out these things they immediately got another camera. Always open the box and check efore leaning the store.

->> OK, an addition:

- Almost most plastic bags are unsealed, just few are sealed, and the CDs covers are sealed too.

- The battery is in the plastic bag but unsealed, not inside the body, and the strap also inside its bag not unwrapped or used.

- The body has these conditions:
1. Shining and polished
2. Some kind of greasy texture as it is new, it should be new then.
3. Has a smell exactly the same of inside a new car in the showroom, loved that Brand new smell, but hope this is not misleading me.
4. No scratches, no finger prints, no smudges, not even dust, the LCD is glittering and very clean, no signs of wear

Are those enough to tell the body is new?

Only the photocopied manual made all this worry, if there was the original one then i may never know if the body is new or not, and honestly speaking, the manual is the last and least important i do care about, i downloaded the manual long time ago and uploaded to my iPad and iPhone too.

Question: how can i check the actuation? some people told me to use shutter count, but do you recommend me something or what are the steps to check out the shutter count or actuation?

->> I think the box was opened before for demo or some customers maybe one asked to see and didn't buy, then this shop called one of those shops and got that opened box, maybe the previous shop took the manual also for demo or putting to another box or whatever, i may ask the shop to bring me a new original manual, the eye piece dropped in the shop as the seller called me to go back and take it, i may visit soon to get the eye piece back, the plastic bag was unsealed so dropped by mistake.

If you were in my situation with same condition, what will you do?

And after i check the actuation, how much it should be, 0? or very low number? What if you see very low number such as 2, 5, 8 or 12 for example?

->> I called the shop/store again and told them that i am not comfortable with the condition i bought the box, the seller keep saying it is new new, but at the end i told him i am not happy in that case, if he can bring another one which is full new not opened i will be happy, at the end he accepted and told me to return it back, but, i am not sure if he will bring another box completely new and sealed, so how can i know that the new box even all sealed is really new? Can't that the seal be open and then seal again without noticeable marks?, what if it is sealed by someone there even the items are used or not completely Brand New for example?

The price in the authorized dealer or stores are very high, i checked and it is about $1000 difference, i don't want to add that much again just to get from a reputable dealer, but in case i can return this box, should i accept the another one in better condition or i have to X that store and not buy from them again and save more to get it in the future?

->> Ok, here is the first shot or RAW file i did with 1DX, can you find the actuation from it?

Also attached a link of the EOSCount screenshot, it seems maybe it is inaccurate, but if it is accurate, do you think that 17 shutters is too much for a new body? I did the the shot 18 with the file above, but the serial number didn't appear at all, only that number 14 which is wrong and even there is no 14 within the serial number, what do you think?

->> So 1DIV and 1DX shooters, which card do you use?

I have some 4,8,12,16 cards, that shot above was taken with new 16GB card that support UDMA7 [Sandisk Extreme Pro], i don't know how responsive this card will be in sports, today Monday our time i will have a game to shoot, nothing better to put this camera under extreme test for tracking focus.

->> The camera is working flawlessly, even if it is not completely new it is also not used looking at all, so i will keep it and use it until it stopped working or sell it when i buy newer one way better than this one in the future.

The soccer shots i did was nice, i used so high ISO on most of the shots to test the camera [3200/6400-20000], the camera was capable at all conditions of ISO.

I have more if you want to see, i used ISO 800 up to 10000, i can't remember i went up more, so i tried to keep maximum 10000, but 6400 or 3200 was enough with reasonable shutter speed. The results are fine, the high iso is cleaner than that from my 1D3 at 1600-6400, maybe slightly better than 1DIV but i don't have that camera, not sure if 5D3 is equal clean high iso as 1DX, but the main thing is the focus, it is incredible.
