Is this the place to mention this?

->> Fellow SS Members-
I just did a shoot with a guy that has produced a product for a specific industry. And while he explained this product to me, I saw how it would be of benefit to the photography community... specifically sport shooters.
With that being said, is it inappropriate to share it with you in this forum? If not, where? I have no interest in this company. I just think it is a good sport shooter fit. |

->> An unmerciful flaming, Chuck? That from someone from Rockbridge County is a bold statement. I'd expect it from someone from Botetourt or even Allegheny County.
Here it is... pants. It is such a simple idea and we can all ask why didn't we think of that.
These pants are made for painters and contractors. The cool part is they have built-in knee pads. I got a pair and there is no pinching in the back of the knees. Roomy in the right places. No binding.
Pockets designed specifically for things like a phone, pen and other stuff (memory cards?). They are heavy duty and a good price ($39.95). The pads are interchangeable and the pants are comfortable.
You could wear them to pretty much any shoot and no one would ever think anything of them. Heck, TV photogs would wear them to their wedding if they had a clean tee-shirt to complete the ensemble!
It's from a Salt Lake City guy that just had a good idea and is making a good product.

So basically what you're saying is this guy invented Carhartts. |

->> Yes, Mr. Boner, that is exactly what I'm saying. The guy decided to invent a pair of pants that have been in existence for over 100 years. I understand he will be inventing a coat to match soon. And he, along with his cousin Timberland are in secret development of a new boot! Yes, that is EXACTLY what I am saying. Do you think if he dyes them an indigo blue, he should change the name of the company to Levi's?
He made a simple addition of built in and interchangeable kneepads. He put real world-sized pockets in the right places and made something unique. I am also saying he has a product that I found value in and thought others that do what we do for a living may, too, find them useful. I think our little fraternity likes a new way to do the job better (see many sports shooters on the sidelines with a Speed Graphic?). I think this guy saw a better way to do his job and made a better mousetrap. I admire that.
Oh, and as for hookers, yes. They appreciate the quality as well as the comfort. |

->> I've worn knee pads that were just foam and material with elastic (no plastic or straps) on my legs under my normal cargo pants/jeans in the past. That way it pretty much looks like I'm not wearing knee pads and I just yank them off when I'm done.
I don't do it often as it can get warm in Hawaii wearing that kind of set-up, but sometimes when you know you're going to have to kneel for awhile on hard floors for photography or non-photography events it works well. You'll still wear out your pants doing it this way of course.
Let me tell you, it saved my knees when going to a Shinto funeral service when I had to sit knees down (not cross-legged) on a hardwood floor for over an hour. |

What I need are spring-loaded pants that make it easier to get up off the floor. |

->> I own both a tactical pants and these.
Tactical pants have more pockets, but I never use more than I do with jeans. (No need for three lens in my pants. I can just hear the comments- "Is that a 70-210 in your pants or are you just glad to see me?)
I like these because they are more rugged and they don't have a cop wanna-be look to them. The padding is better (by far) and it is owned by a local guy who personally handles questions and customer service. Given a choice, I always prefer to deal with someone directly than an unknown voice in the ether. |

->> I don't wear kneepads, but often consider it because it would prevent grass stains on my jeans. I have 2 pairs that are designated for covering football or soccer, marked with a zip tie around a belt loop so I don't wear them by accident.
Fortunately, I live in Florida and can wear shorts at 95% of those games. These built-in kneepads are a great idea for people who need them covering basketball. |
