I went twice - two years in a row - 2008 and 2009 (I think?), and it set me up very nicely for a lot of possibilities and opportunities following my experience. I learned way more than those few days than I would've an entire year at school. I also made some lifelong friends who have helped me, as I've helped them, along this journey in photojournalism. A few of us, Rod Leland, Mike Vander Veer, and myself took a road trip from San Francisco to Irvine prior to our second time through the workshop and had the time of our lives. APPLY! Went in 2008 and 2010 and both times it was a truly mind blowing experience. One thing I don't think gets mentioned much is that as amazing and educational as the actual workshop is the impact it has on you doesn't stop when you board the plane for home. I've gotten as much, maybe even more, from the friendships I made in those two weeks. The people you meet and shoot alongside will be a resource you can use for the rest of your career. To that end bring business cards and give them to EVERYBODY. Don't have any? Get some made.
