->> All depends on what kind of focus motor they put in it...yes, it's AF-S but not all are created equal.
Always did like my old 70-210/f4. |

->> I only get excited about a gear announcement if it means that I can start carrying less stuff or lighter stuff.
I've been dreaming of this lens all election season. I'm glad they've announced this, but really; I week before the election? That's just a tease. |

| ->> yes, the tripod collar is a $223 optional add on. Chuck, you're right that 70-210 F/4 is awesomely sharp. Slow, but sharp. |

->> @Blanco, yeah, lightweight is why I'm interested...
Also, you could do a YouTube unboxing video of this lens... |

->> We are looking to replace our 10 year old Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR1 lenses. I am not sure the paper is going to go for the $2400 cost of the new replacement model. I was looking at the older AF Zoom-Nikkor ED 80-200mm f/2.8D at $1079, but worry I won't like it as much as my current lens. So would this one be a better alternative? Would the one stop loss hurt in HS gyms and dark HS football fields. I know it has the VR, but that does not help stop action. We are using d3 bodies and already jack the ISO up pretty high sometimes.
Thanks |

->> @Paul, what about the 80-200 AF-s?
It's not VR, but I have one at work and it's stupid sharp. |

| ->> The 80-200/f2.8 AF-S hasn't been made in years. It was replaced by the ones Paul's paper is replacing. |

->> @Chuck and Paul,
Yeah, it is an older, not-new model, but if you buy used (should have made that point), it's a great pro lens for under $1000. |
