Decent mileage app?
G.J. McCarthy, Photographer

->> Hi gang:

Did a message board history search and saw no clear answers; I've been equally frustrated by what's on the web, too.

Does anyone know of a good iPhone mileage app that works off GPS, so the mileage is accurate? I used to keep a logbook in my car but got lazy, then just started figuring off the mileage via Google Maps info off my assignment list.

Well, that's just not good enough for the tax man.

I feel like one has to exist. I use RunKeeper to log my miles on a run or ride, so I know it's doable. And yes, I've tried using RunKeeper for my car mileage but it gets confusing and the interface isn't the most intuitive for anything outside exercise.

Thanks in advance,

- gerry -

->> I use an app called Cyclemeter for road biking, hiking, skiing, ect. It's pretty sweet and I'm sure it could be used to track your mileage while driving. It will even sync with your iCal when you're done so you have a record of the trip.

@Joel — When it comes to battery life, if you're driving you could simply plug your iPhone into your handy car charger.

I can upload the files to my Dropbox.com account, e-mail a complete file of any and all files to myself and to the company I am freelancing for. Allows multiple Freelance Accounts, and more. Very easy to use app that takes care of all the record keeping I need for freelance work.

It was $4.99 but for me, it was well worth it as I am terrible at keeping these records and this app made it so much easier. Works on iPhone, IPad and iTouch.

->> I have tried a lot of them and the best one for me is Milog, it allows for multiple destinations and has several options for tagging purposes and different cars. It is easy to use and versatile. Just input your odometer at the start/end of the day and put in your stops. There are GPS enabled apps but I found it more work to run and it drains your battery bigtime.

Also, it has awesome report feature where I can generate a .csv doc that I can just copy and paste all of the data into my timecard, re retyping. Also good for taxes!

->> Not sure if it's available for iPhones, but see if you can find "TripLog - GPS"

It will automatically start/stop based on movement plus it gives you a year of Amazon Cloud to store your data, keeps photos of gas, repair, insurance receipts. Break down things to personal, business, medical, etc. mileage used for end of year tax purposes. Was worth the full package at $12.00

->> Not an app but for what it's worth I'm lazy and lose things so I just take a photo of my odometer before and after each assignment so my photo archive has a record of where my mileage was when I started, what I did, and how much driving I did along with the time/date.
