| ->> Sorry my friends. I look back at my summer at the Mobile Press-Register as one of the best of my life thus far. I hope things come around quickly for everyone involved. |

->> Sad, sad news for our colleagues in NOLA and the industry as a whole. I get that it is business but it strikes me that cutting nearly 50% of the newsroom staff, the content creators, is managerial malpractice.
I have long referred to this as, "the snake eating its tail." At what point does a media company have nothing left to sell in its market. No one covers New Orleans like the Times-Picayune. With half of the watchful eyes blinded by a business decision, the citizens and the city will be at a disadvantage.
With similar news from Detroit and other cities, I wonder when we will finally reach the bottom. |

->> Having been through it when Advance Publications slashed the Trenton (N.J.) Times in 2006, my heart goes out to the professionals in New Orleans and Alabama.
There will be hard and challenging days ahead -- but you'll also learn a lot about yourselves. Whether you choose to redefine what it means to be a successful photographer, by creating a new business model, or if you choose to pursue something else, I wish you nothing but the best of luck. |

You mean, city hall will be out of control with fewer watchdogs to worry about. |
