One of the most special assignments in my life.

->> This week I got back from Montana where I covered one of the most meaningful assignments in my life. I covered the very last horse drive by the Mantle family who supply horses to dude ranches and outfitters throughout the west, including the horses you ride at Yellowstone National Park.
I had previously shot a horse drive by them a year ago, but the Mantles are selling their ranch, getting out of the very demanding and financially risky horse business and moving into cattle. So Reuters sent me back to cover the last drive.
This is not a dude ranch drive where riders drive cattle one way and the next set of tourist drives the cattle back.
This is one of the few real drives of a large herd of horses that are being driven for a purpose. With more and more horse related businesses shutting their doors, these types of drives are becoming a memory. I was fortunate to be part of one of the last out there.
The blog I wrote about it can be found here

Any constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Jimmy |

->> Great work. I like how you got the nice overall and the detail shots..many inexperience shooters would have forgotten to do both. I can almost feel the dust mud flying in some of these images...
Well done! |

->> Fantastic work, and a story after my own heart. I like the off-the-beaten-path photo essays for things that are action-y but not necessarily sports. |

->> Thanks for the feedback. Witnessing the changing west is something I am fortunate to be able to document. It's also great to see this story get some tread and get out there. |

->> Terrific work and really nice to see such a great story being told so well. It looks like its getting some well-deserved traction now too. Rob Galbraith had a link to the Atlantic.com website which ran the story with 27 images.
Have to ask: Did you do this on horseback? |
