Can we see samples of Photoshelter websites?
Armando Solares, Photographer
Englewood | FL | USA | Posted: 12:51 PM on 04.18.12
->> Hi Guys,

I'm considering a few options for my websites. I am a Photoshelter user, but I don not use it as my website. At least not yet.

If I did it will save me money. One archive site, along with a website.

My other option is building a site on Wordpress or using Wordpress. This would be less expensive than the company I'm with. But it will take some time to build.

I'm curious to see samples of your Photoshelter websites, pros and cons, and any helpful advice.
If you have a blog with your site that would be cool to see too.

thanks,

Armando

Although I've had my PS account for a little more than a year, I'm just really finding out the power of PS through their online webinars and e-mails they send out. I'm way behind the power curve, but I am revamping my site to coexist with my blog through Graph Paper Press. Here's a link to my site, but it will probably change in the next few weeks as I tweak it a bit.

Hope this helps...

From what I can tell support is also quick and top notch, had a small display question and it was handeled very fast.

I am just using one of their pre made templates, but feel free to take a look - also I am finding the search of images through google etc is really starting to come around.

Best wasy I know of to look at the sites is to go here and just start clicking.

Some like myself use a splash page as a lead in. Many do a better job than me of integration. You can do pretty much as little or as much of that sort of thing as you want or need.

I wish I had the time to learn more JavaScript to make it completely customizable as I'd love to make my front galleries display straight into the Portfolio view instead of the Gallery view.

Been using it since 2008 as my main site and couldn't be happier -

The idea was to keep it simple so clients could easily navigate and find their photos. We used the PS template, and it worked really well for our purposes. Here's the winter sports site:

My blog is through wordpress.com. It's a free template. I bought a domain name to use with it. I think the whole site costs me less than $ 20 per year to run.

->> Armando another option is a custom design with Photoshelter integration. I ended up going that way with my latest redesign (which I just launched a couple weeks back):

www.mattmayphotography.com

I used one of Photoshelter's suggested designers, David Brabyn. Obviously there is additional expense having a web developer create a custom site that uses Photoshelter integration. But for me it made sense to have somebody else refine the look and functionality I wanted. The site is wordpress based with a wordpress blog.

I'm only just beginning to get my archive online and figure out all the bells and whistles of the site but I'm happy with it so far.

Overall, Photoshleter is a great resource and it's SEO functionality is fantastic. I've seen a significant increase in web traffic on the new site versus my old custom Flash website. It's not all because of Photoshelter but some definitely is.

It still has full retail capability in the background for stock or events I happen to shoot. The goal was to make it more of a portfolio site with blog and I'm very happy with the result.

it's one of their templates (the name of which escapes me right now)
