You all might want to forward this along to your local SID's. Not so much to be on the lookout for this guy, but to just keep their eyes open when doling out credentials.

->> This doesn't surprise me. The part about gaining access to athletes aside, I can't remember a Big 10 sideline that didn't have at least a few GWCs (clad in homer gear and often holding point-and-shoots on monopods!) that clearly were there because they knew somebody in the university hierarchy and wanted only to have the "sideline experience."

IMO, Penn State was the worst. Legions of alums wearing photo passes (no cameras in sight) and blocking the sight lines of working photogs, even stepping onto the field in front of us to get a better view of a big play.

->> I heard back from my buddy at Michigan. The email was taken seriously and forwarded on to the higher ups. I doubt they will tell me much more than that. I also emailed ICON SMI about the situation. I heard back with this response:

Thanks for the heads up. We are aware of the article.

We had already terminated him before the article. Icon did not know he has doing what is being alleged and terminated him when it found out. The article was erroneous in that we did not accredit him for the Michigan game. He obtained (and continues to obtain as of yesterday), media accreditation on his own and submitted images to us. If any mud is being slung at Icon for working with us, I ask that photographers consider he is still getting accreditation from universities, including apparently Michigan (who is OSU's rival and in the same conference). Again after submitting images to us we became aware of the allegations.

I think ICON SMI deserves some credit here for doing the right thing. We work very hard to have some one ruin the reputation of all of us.

->> @TD, I'm not defending this guy but the article said he requested credentials to cover Ohio born athletes that were playing for Michigan. That part makes sense.

However, how he got credentialed using a fake name is what bothers me. Most Universities require a photo ID to pick up your credential, which means he probably had a fake ID as well. This looks to be a well planned scam and I hope that many D1 SID's are being warned.

As I have for WVU, Pitt, Ohio State and others.
Sometimes the AP just does not have the shot of the long snapper thats the local kid that the paper is looking for

Im from Ohio and I really dont get excited for the Ohio State Michigan thing like everyone else does.
