I go to a football game - some guy rubs my nuggets.
I go to church - some guy rubs my nuggets.
I get pulled over while speeding with 200 pounds of dope in my trunk - some guy rubs my nuggets.

When is it going to stop?

I fully recognize that this allows them to avoid some of the furor over touching patrons (note I said some and as an aside - Thomas, you must have some droopy nuggets), but it sure seems that the whole knees to waist area, with all those pesky pockets to hold things, is a much more likely place for contraband to be stored, than the knees to ankles.

This new policy seems to be as much window dressing as anything. To me it's akin to saying border security is enhanced by adding a search under the hood to a search of the cabin of cars, but systematically failing to check the trunk.

->> (this is where I speak from police experience)

Pat-downs suck. It is hard enough to do a great pat-down when you are a cop with your life on the line. Pat-downs from a disinterested security guards worried about your impending complaint are ineffective. Pat-downs from an overzealous security guard are a lawsuit waiting to happen. And, to someone who really wants to do harm, pat-downs are a waste of time.

The things I have seen missed during pat-downs are ridiculous. And if someone really wants to hide something, there are places (especially wearing colder weather clothing) where I can guarantee you, you will never find it. Imagine the places you would never imagine people hiding stuff...yup, found drugs AND guns there.

Metal detectors + wands is the simplest way to go. Add in NFL/MLB policy that anyone caught with glass is subject to immediate lifetime ban from stadiums and no one is bringing is glass beer bottles.

Focus on what is important and move on. Adding in incredibly intrusive pat-downs is a waste of time and effort.

And if we can figure these out, surely someone with less honest intention beyond "staying warm on the sidelines" can figure it out too.

->> I went to a game yesterday expecting long lines from more stringent searches. Instead, it was a surprisingly shorter line and probably the fastest pretend search I've ever had going into the stadium. One light pat on the outside of my arm and one on my hip. I even had a phone and pocket video camera that he touched on the hip. "Have a good game, sir."
Awesome.
