If you go to Fisherman's Wharf....Alioto's is a very good Resturant. Much of Fisherman's Wharf is a tourist trap. Alioto's is good locals eat there.. A few blocks from there is Aquatic Park and Gharadelli's Square, much better.
North Beach has Sts. Peter and Paul Church at Washington Square. It is big. In the Marina District, Chestnut st. and Union sts are a good walk. The top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel or the Sir Francis Drake Hotel have nice views. The Napa Valley is good. If you have the time and the money, the "Wine Train" in Napa is a good ride and great dinner. If your more adventuresome, there are other places I can point you to.

If the fog and rain keep the city clear there is so much to do right in the city without going to Napa or Marin etc,
If fog is in the forecast take that trip to Napa or Marin.

Lot of hotels with great views on their top floors for dining and drinking food is normally not very good but the views are amazing

->> They have 1,3 and 7 day passes available from Muni that will give you unlimited travel on the city's cable cars, buses and street cars.

Available at:
-SFMTA Customer Service Center, 11 South Van Ness Avenue at Market
-Muni Ticket Sales Location at Market and Powell Streets
-Muni Ticket Sales Location at Hyde and Beach Streets (near Ghirardelli Square)
-Information booths in the baggage claim areas at the San Francisco International Airport.

These will NOT work on the BART subway system but you can get nearly anywhere in the city and it's a good deal.

Amen; a parking ticket here is $75. And be very careful picking a parking place in the street; the parking meter pole might have a sticker on it located way down near the bottom that whispers "no parking". Trust me, I know from experience.

->> Beach Blanket is a very worthy investment, I forgot all about it. The remarks about parking and parking ENFORCEMENT are very true. In the end, it is less expensive to take a cab than get a parking ticket. Many meters are 7 days a week. If your adventuresome. There is a Vietnam Resturant "Tu'Lan" I recommend' #37 well done' on 6th st at Market, one block from the cable car turnaround. It is the best. At first glance it may be a little tough. But For all of my 30 years at the Chronicle one black away I went there 3-4 times a week. It is inexpensive. A neighbor hood type place.
When it over and your home, tell us what you did

->> I lived there ( off and on ) for four years... so I'm not an expert... but here goes.

Personally I'd avoid Lombard Street... it's over rated

Yes to the GGBridge from the Marin Headlands.... and go all the way out to the old bunkers where Ansel Adams made some of his final images..

There is a good parking lot at 4th Street & Brennan... you can walk to the Ferry Building... Market Street... Union Square... SFMOMA...ATT Park ( great rest across the street... Zupa )....

The Zoo is amazing

Muir Woods ( get there early or you'll park a mile away )

SFMOMA

tons of amazing things...

Take the PCH from Pacifica to Half Moon Bay... amazing ride... cut over on 92 to 280... take that to Palo Alto... lunch on University Ave... back up 101 to the city... easy trip

Cal Academy of Science

I could go on forever

enjoy

->> Thank you very much to everyone who has responded both on the message board and privately. The information has been very helpful.

We've been apprised of the parking situation by friends that have spent time there, so we'll be opting for public transportation.

Otherwise:

Alioto's - Reservations made.

Alcatraz - Tickets bought.

Giants Tickets - Secured. (As a life long Texas Rangers fan, this one still stings a little bit after last season. I'll work through it, though).

We're already starting to realize that a second (and longer) trip will have to be in the future to cover everything.

Nic - That jingle has been in my mind all weekend. Thanks a lot!!!

Of course, if you're not into used CDs or hard-to-find imports, then you can prolly skip it.

If you enjoy tequila, you can't go wrong with Tres Agaves in downtown near the Giants stadium. Best selection of tequila I've ever witnessed - and excellent Mexican food to boot.
