->> Hey everyone,
I'm looking for referrals for good hosting sites.
I've checked out Fat Cow, Go Daddy but are there that's great with
flash websites?
thanks |

->> I use hostdog.net for my sites, you can do anything and get a lot with the package. It's a bit more expensive than some, also use 1&1 for some domains and they seem really good for that at least. |

->> Yuli, out of curiosity, why do you want a flash site? If you're really interested in flash, you should use a service such as LiveBooks that has a html framework so your site will appear in search engines. Without such a framework, Flash sites do not appear in search engines. They also do not work on iPhone / iPod / iPad devices and many other mobile platforms. PhotoShelter had a good post about using flash as a photographer, I would suggest you check it out:

Whatever your decision, best of luck.

->> I'm a little confused on the question - Flash is a way of creating/presenting content; hosting is something that you put the files on, whether it's flash or HTML.
That said, if you want flash, Livebooks is great (but a bit on the expensive side); there's also Showit.
If you want hosting, I've had a really good experience with InMotion Hosting (inmotionhosting.com), ranging from small sites all the way up to 50-domain database-driven sites. |

->> I'd personally stay away from 1and1. While they do have good tech support, their customer service has to be the worst I have ever had to deal with. |

->> Sitewelder has always been great, and now they offer a smartdevice website seamless with your flash site. I am actually moving over to BlueHost though because I am making my site more blog integrated and away from Flash. They start at $6.95/mo and are WordPress optimized. |

->> Yuli
I use photobiz.com for one of my websites which you can have flash and/or a html site. I have found it to be the most idiot proof site I have ever used especially for uploading pics. The customer service has been great. I also recently have uploaded a website on godaddy and purchased a wordpress template called Photo Nexus Wordpress gallery 2 in 1 from Themeforest. It has been extremely easy. Email me if you want more information. |

->> I use Arvixe.com been using them since just after Arvand started the business. They have real support (in the US), and are a great company to work with, highly, highly recommended. In 5+ years of them hosting my website i've had less than 5 hours of total downtime (including scheduled maintenance), that's insane uptime compared to other host I've ever used. |

->> I've looked at a couple of the providers listed above.
My situation. I have a provider for my main site and Photoshelter running the backend. I want to add another domain name with a single splash page or a redirect so when people hit that (the new site) they get sent to my current one.
Any one provider good for that? I can easily do the page. Looking for an inexpensive alternative. It may grow later, but I don't anticipate that.
So, to make it short. I want "newpage1".com to redirect to my www.alanlook.com. I need to register and set up "newpage1".com |

->> In the past I was a great supporter of GoDaddy. Last week I had a rude awakening when out of the blue I received an email telling me I was in violation of GoDaddy's TOS. Seems that last June GoDaddy went on to redefine what unlimited means and 11 months later I got caught exceeding my unlimited number of files.
And before anyone asks.... we were hosting 2.6 million files whereas unlimited is now defined as 500,000. Needless to say I too am looking for solutions, not the least of which may be to get a Comcast Business line dropped here and host a server here internally. Most of the companies mentioned here have 200,000 stated as the definition of unlimited in their TOS'es... I know because I spent a decent chunk of time reading tos'es Friday. |

->> While I have a couple of pages on Godaddy.com, I have another on Aplus.net, that has been going strong since 1999 with no real problems I'm aware of.
They aren't a 'flash' site, but will likely support the flash site you've got. |

->> Eric, you may have to step up from either "shared hosting" or a "virtual private server" to a dedicated server to avoid the file limit. (Or course hosting your own eliminates this problem as well.)
I've been with Hostgator since S2F shutdown a few years back with no complaints. Here is their info on inode limits:

->> Why flash? It's a thing of the past. Won't show on either an iPad or iPhone. Hard to update too and is a SEO nightmare. I'm using a combination of GoDaddy and PhotoShelter. |

->> Any web hosting company will have pros and cons and sometimes you get what you pay for. I have setup sites on GoDaddy, iPowerweb and currently using hostmonster. They all have limitations, like file limits Eric mentioned, bandwidth limits and concurrent user connection limits. You exceed any of these and you can get your site disabled temporarily or dropped as a customer, depending on their TOS. Generally you are sharing a server with 100 other websites, so to keep performance reasonable they have to have limits set. Getting a dedicated server removes these limitations but the cost goes up really quick, $5-10/month shared to $150+/month for dedicated hosting.
@Yuli - You might have a large investment in Flash, but you might want to cut the cord now and start fresh.
@Alan - Almost all hosting sites can do you what you need to do, it's call a Redirect.
@Eric - Like Kevin said, you need to move to a dedicated server or host your own internally. Depending on your web server skills and OS of choice the later can be a great deal of time. |
