Who is coming to Canada for the first ever outside NHL Game?

->> Who is coming to Canada for the first ever outside NHL Game?

In November there will be history made when the Edmonton Oilers play the Montreal Canadiens for the first ever outdoor regular season NHL game.

To boot Wayne Gretzky and a bunch of his old pals are getting together to play the Alumni of they Canadiens.

Gretzky said once he would never were the Oiler Jersey again after he got screwed by the old Oiler owner. Time heals all wounds they say!!!

Who is coming. Us SS members up here just might have to offer some resources and a party eh, back bacon and Canadian 6.5 beer and all!!!! Maybe we could have a get together and mini workshop...... Title, "How to stay warm in this F&!#%Kin' cold!!"

Did you know this is also the perogy capital of Canada?

Robert has been here he will tell you how nice we are up here in the frozen north.

And frozen it could be. November can be plus 10 Celsius, 0 Celsius or -40 Celsius with the wind chill. Now when it gets to -40 it finally meets -40 Fahrenheit......... it is hard to breath at -25 Celsius so lets hope the warm air is blowin'.
-
Those digitals just might crap out!!! Two hockey games outside on live nation TV so there will be tons of commercials.

Get your grama to knit you a sweater!!! :-) LOL

http://www.edmontonoilers.cPS:

What does the "CH" stand for in the middle of the Montreal Canadiens Jersey? Center hice'......!!!!

->> Hello Mike...... long-time no see.

Hopefully that move to the sunny LA coast has not made you soft!!

All kidding aside about the cold, it can really be nice in Edmonton in November (that would be plus 5 to 10 Celsius)......... but if that cold north wind is blowing look out!!

They are going to have a portable ice making unit there, this will not be a frozen pond hockey game. There will be the tubes under the ice to keep it frozen just like the indoors rinks.

They set up the whole rink a couple of months ago in the stadium it looked pretty cool. But man it is a long way away.

I will ask the media guy what they are doing for shooting positions? But this is a TV event, still guys may not get much. And how many good positions there will be? The concourse is a LONG way away from center ice in this building. Commonwealth Stadium has 60,000 seats and has a full Canadian Football field (10 yards longer) and the running track around the field before the seating.

I messed up on the link above:
http://www.edmontonoilers.com

As well they have this site set-up:
http://www.heritagehockeyclassic.com

Steven....... you might be right. That is just an old joke that has kicked around here for years. It is an accent thing. :-)

->> Well, it seems that C=Canadien and H=Hockey is correct after all. Also, C=Canadian and H=Les Habitants is ALSO correct as it was their original name. The club was originaly known as Les Habitants and used a CA logo for their owner/sponsor Le Club Athletique Canadien. Years later, they changed to the CH logo and changed their club name to Club de Hockey Canadien (C=Canadian / H=Hockey). Its a short story, but interesting. Here's the link.

Hey Guy Lafleur will be on the team that plays against Gretzky and crew before the real NHL game starts.

This thing is a total sell-out before the ticket were released. The team is having to raffle off just the chance to buy the final 7,000 tickets so there is not a crush at the window when they go on sale.

60,000 tickets at $60 to $135 a piece. The main game will start at 7pm MST it will be played live on Hockey Night in Canada coast to coast.

Edmonton........... 10 months of hockey and 2 months of bad ice!!!

I have heard now that this is an NHL event and any all passes are coming out of New York's head office with very few front row positions to shoot from, not sure if any fans will be actually seating front row, that is not on the drawing! Now the concourse level of this building is just a little far away for a 400mm or 600mm you would have to have a copy of the latest interpolating program they would probably still be loose pictures. And it will be night time and this building has crappy lighting around 500 sec at 2.8 at 1200ASA with lots of dark spots during football, white ice should help. Not sure now much more "new lighting" they may set-up for this TV event. With no catwalk in this open air building that position is out.

Should get interesting!!!

It has been pretty warm here with it around 0 Celsius to -10 Celsius but it looks like it is going to go into the toilet and get really cold. -20 Celsius and then some wind will be around for the game day....... BRRRRRR!! Now, things are pretty liveable in the north up until just around -20c that is when things get hard on the gear and the people. And if it is windy...... yikes it could get cold, two games plus pre-game that is a long day outside. First game is a short one.

I'm only a two-hour drive away and I won't be there either. Dang... But we do have an NHL Old Timers game in town tonight. I've heard names like Shak and Lafleur are going to grace our ice. Plus this is indoor. So I guess that will make up for it.

By the way latest forecast for Saturday night in Edmonton is -21c wind s10 km/h pop 30%. So at least there won’t be much wind.

Oh... if any SS members are getting together in Edmonton after the game for a few adult beverages, give me a call on my cell. I'd be glad to make the drive for something like that. # is listed on my members page.

Darryl did a good really job for USA Today.

That is now the second time that an editor has used the Sports Shooter connection to find me in Edmonton and ask for help. I hooked them up with Darryl this time. At one point the editor asked wherehe could send the freelance agreement to, Darryl would have to send it back with the pictures. I said something like, "Is that the one that says that you guys own the pictures?"........ he answered back with a sharp "NO!"

"It is the agreement that says the shooters owns the pictures and that it is for one time use and we will pay extra if the pictures on the internet."......... Now that was pretty cool, can't say I have heard that one lately!!! The folks on the USA TOday Photo Desk were great to work with!!

Hey Robert, Jack and the rest you work for a great company.

Okay now where are my longjohns and that toque.........
