| ->> Years back we were asked to shoot for the Portland Pirates (Minor League Hockey) but after a season I came to the conclusion free swag and a few bucks doesn't justify my time. Team photographer for minor league teams is not profitable. |

->> Luke,
That's not true. We're the team photographers for several minor league teams and each one of them is a profitable situation. It's all about how you negotiate.
Several years ago we were the team shooters for the MLL's Philadelphia Barrage and it was good money in addition to the marketing deal we struck. Someone else (I won't list any names here) came in and gave away images from every game he had shot for some POS website and offered to shoot for free and they ended up making him the "Official Photographer"...needless to say he left good money on the table by undercutting us.
Rich...I think the D-League uses NBA (aka Getty) shooter for all their franchises. A good friend of mine is in management for the league so I can ask him if no one else chimes in with a definite answer for you...

->> Luke - it really depends on the team, some pay decent while others would take some fan with a point and shoots photos before paying for anything. It's been getting worse because of the situation that happened to Delane, there's so many that are just happy to be there and give everything away (no matter how bad the quality is), leaving money on the table. Or what seemed to happen this year was teams cut days or pay as well blaming the economy.
Believe Delane is right on the Getty thing - all I've seen have been from NBAE/Getty for the D-League. |

| ->> I was asked awhile ago to shoot the pirates and I said no way after seeing what they were offering. Free swag and very little money sounds about right. |
