Photographers traveling from Canada to US to cover US sports
Nick Turchiaro, Photographer

->> I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice to Canadian photographers traveling from Canada to the US to cover a US sporting event. It seems that some guys have been running into some difficulties with US Customs. The officials seem to feel that the Canadian photographers are taking jobs away from the US photographers, when in fact they are simply covering the event for the Canadian media.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Nick

You might try contacting Ron Scheffler, he is a SportShooter member, and frequently travels to the US to cover US sports.

I have more experience on this subject than I'd like to have and would be happy to offer any advice I can off board. I'm based in Calgary but regularly shoot annual report work for oil and gas companies, shoot some travel guides and also produce some large stock shoots a few times a year.

Things have changed significantly and you need to be prepared so, feel free to drop me an email and I'll share my experiences.

Good Luck

->> HA!

I remember the last time I went to Canada on assignment. A ruddy-cheeked immigration agent asked me:
"Why can't a Canadian do this job?"

My reply:
"The name of my publication is USA F**KING TODAY!"

He laughed and let me into the country with my gear...
