Advice: Best HD Video Camera for Travel

->> I've been using a Sony HVR-Z7U, which is a fullsized video camera with interchangeable lenses. It's a great camera, but impractical to travel with. I also carry two Nikon D3s, a 200 mm f2, 85 mm F1.4, Marantz audio recorder ... you get the picture. And since I occasionally fly on regional puddle jumpers, I have to get it all to fit into the smaller Think Tank roller, plus my laptop case.
Can anyone recommend more of a handheld, HD and preferably solid-state (internal, CF or SDHC) that can at least be modified to accept XLR connections for a mic? I know it's a large order ...
