->> the smart paper idea has been floating around for a while. It certainly has merit for that segment of the market that still likes their news in the archaic newspaper format. I don't know if it carries any weight with those who see the PDA (blackberry/iPhone) as the primary mode of accessing the internet and therefore their news stream.

->> Chris,

I didn't see this till now, but I would love to see Microsoft accomplish anything close that! But they can't even manage to make an OS that can run without a million fixes!

This idea has been around for a long time and I really haven't seen anyone come up with a good way of making it work. However I really do think this is more the way the industry should go. With the popularity of things like Twitter and iPhones the newspaper industry really needs to start looking that direction for the money it needs.

->> First, am I the only one who finds that future hellish?

Second, I love how future projections always make the gadgets of tomorrow so apparently scratch and dent proof. Looking at some of the unimaginably awesome crud I carry with me daily, the reality of their physical appearance is far more Millenium Falcon. Think of a Kindle that has been used by a toddler for a week, you get the idea.

Finally, it's kind of comical to think that with all those different display/networking devices they dreamt up that the traditional newspaper layout would necessarily survive.

I hope the future is never that polished. I like things to have a little wear and tear with a smidge dirtiness. But thats me.
