->> Craig,
nice job on the video. are the stills in that video pulled from the video capture? also what is the name to the song used in the video? very catchy tune, I have not heard it before.
Thanks. |

->> Hey Louis,
The mentality was stills first (as that what I was being paid for after all), video second. So I shot the stills like I normally do and then video when I could. The bride in this video was a good friend of mine, so I did this as a surprise for her, She never even knew I was shooting video at all. The 5D makes it very simple to go back and forth. The song is "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. It was their first dance song, thus the reason I used it.
The cool thing about the 5D is that you can shoot a still while shooting video, so if you see something while in video mode that would make a cool still frame, just hit the shutter and it will shoot a raw file (though the video will be interrupted slightly) |

->> that's great, I was wondering as you shot video of them going up the aisle and I thought that normally someone would be shooting stills at that point. great job, seems like a great tool when used correctly like you did.
now how does the AF work with that in video mode and if not then is it difficult to focus? need a different focusing screen etc... does the AF kick in when you trip the shutter when shooting an image?
thanks for taking the time to answer, I shoot Nikon but I am always interested in new technology. |

| ->> That was a hard part for sure. What I did was set up the back view on a tripod and let it run, then I shot them walking in from the front. I shot with a 300 on a Mark IIn as they walked in, then switched to an 85 with a 5D in video mode when they got to the front. Then when shot them with the 300 walking back and switched to a wide camera in video mode as they got closer. I tried to pre focus as much as possible because the autofocus is very slow. I had plenty of out of focus video, but I just cut it out :). The live view focus is cool, you can zoom in and get real fine focus, but its really slow. |

->> Very nice collaboration. The Triangle Region in NC has started a similar concept called The Wedding Photographic Society at http://weddingphotographicsociety.com/
It was started by Christobal Perez and Brian Mullins along with about 8 others who bounced around ideas. It launched in January 2009.
The blog element is only a part of the construct with a wedding forum being a huge asset to photographers to communicate...much like this message board only a bit more private.
Take a look as it may give your group some more ideas for http://www.myportlandphotographer.com (just bringing the thread back to your group) |

->> Craig, I have yet to look past the initial photos for the various photographers (too much time taken up hitting "refresh" on soap opera threads about people not agreeing with each other perchance?), but the concept sounds great and a very smart move for all of you. And you appear to have put together a fantastic group of photographers.
Best of luck to all of you. |
