| ->> I am looking for some way to keep and my Fetch FTP active. I also need some way to automatically move photos out of the active FTP to a folder on a server or desktop. Is there any Mac or PC program that can do this? |

| ->> Bump. I have figured out how to keep the connection active on the ftp. I still need help finding a way to move .jpg files from the FTP to a folder on a server. Is this possible? |

->> Matthew, what exactly do you want to do?
Do you want to create a hot folder to upload, or once images are uploaded to your server you want to them move them to the folder?
There are options available. What OS? |

->> OK, the former system our photographers filed photos from outside the building was a web based system and is now being forcibly removed. I need to come up with a new way of doing things.
Here is the workflow I am hoping will work out.
I am shooting a basketball game and file photos into our FTP account that is already set up. Now I am using Fetch.
Back at the office I (want to) have a computer with an FTP program running that automatically dumps or copies the .jpg files into a network drive where we keep the processed photos we turn in.
In this process I will not have to staff someone to dump photos from the FTP to the network folder |

| ->> Write an Apple script to do this. |

->> Bert's right.
Explore Apple's Automator program that let's you put together your own workflows and scripts.
The latest version of Fetch and Transmit have actions for Automator so you should be able to set up a script that will download the file and move it to the folder you want. |

| ->> That's how we move files uploaded to a server outside of our secure firewall and then into our network. |

->> At my paper, we have created a workflow script using Automator to download from an outside ftp folder, then upload it to an inside ftp folder, then delete the file from the outside one. We also use a little program called Automator Loop Utility to run the script ever 4 minutes.
It takes a little tweaking and practice runs, but it works well. We have the script running on a dedicated iMac and needs to be restarted every few days because we get occassional errors when ftp caches start getting large. |

->> Interarchy is a long-time powerhouse FTP client for the Mac and it has all sorts of capabilities like that, besides being the fastest at moving files. I've used so many of them over the years, and I always open Interarchy if I'm moving a lot of data and need it there ASAP. It has a concept called a Net Disk, which is a remove FTP site mounted on the desktop like a local volume, and you can move files and folders in and out of it and they will be mirrored to the remote folder. It also has auto-uploads which are like one-way transfers. You could tell it to watch the incoming FTP folder and mirror it to the shared volume, either one-way or bi-directionally.
Also, the Mac can open a FTP server as a folder on the desktop. Check under the Go menu and open "Connect to server...". Put in the FTP server's URL, including the path to the incoming folder. Then, you can watch that folder with AppleScript or Automator or any number of programs, and have the app mirror to the shared drive. |
