Looking for something to carry Honl gels

->> Last week I finally got some of David Honl's flash accessories and would like to find something to keep the gels from getting trashed in my bag. What are you guys using to keep them in?

->> Pat- I use a divider from a camera bag and stick them to that. I put the green gels on one side and the CTO filters on the other. I guess the best way to describe how I put them on is like shingles on a roof. I overlaps them so that only one of the velcro strips attaches to the divider. This is the best way that I've come up with.

->> Depending on the size of your gels, they might fit in a business card case. Also a spare CF card wallet might work for you as well

->> I keep them in the tube they come in. The tube is small enough to fit into the bag I have assigned for all my SB800 accessories. The tube is nice and sturdy to prevent any damage.

->> I keep them in the same tube as well, but I have found that the local Menards carries those same tubes so I just purchased a little larger one so they are easier to take out and put back in without crushing them.

->> I picked up something at Walmart, was like $3.50.
It was either a receipt holder or something along those lines - look in the paper/pens/office section.

->> Thanks for the suggestions guys. My gels came in a flat cardboard package which will probably protect them well but isn't always the easiest thing to get them in and out of.
Rene, I may check out Home Depot or Ace (no Menards around here) for a tube of some sort. Michael, what you're describing sound like what I had in mind.

->> I use a couple of pencil holders I picked up at Walmart. They're the perfect size for gels.

->> I like the idea, but I'm more of a do-it-yourselfer.
A few years ago I came up with my own plan for gels. I laminate them and include a little tab with the color temperature that the camera should be set at on the tab. The tab slides into the slot where the wide angle difusser rests when not in use.
This has worked great for me for years, and I can keep them anywhere without them being damaged.
I posted a hidden gallery back when I made my first batch.

You can get a 20x24 inch sheet of most gels for less than $7 and make a bunch of these. |
