->> I just received my issue of Outdoor Photographer and found a really cool article featuring the work of Phil Hawkins in comparison to the techniques used by Ansel Adams. Very cool!

->> It takes quite a bit to impress me photographically, looking at as many photographs as I have over the years does that to a photographer, but I have to say the the first time I looked at Phil's landscape work I was absolutely taken aback.

As a young person who grew up 45 minutes from Yosemite National Park and spent quite a bit of time there growing up, Phil's body of work from there made me feel like I was seeing a place I'd never seen before. Absolutely marvelous and stunning.

->> Phil's overview images of Yosemite, let me see what it may have been like thousands of years ago when the first people came and discovered the area. beautiful, stunning images. I hope to one day make the time to go to Yosemite and attempt to make some images of the area.
I would love to let Phil loose back in Alaska where I grew up, I just know he could fully capture the state the way I remember it.

->> Phil posted a long time ago about somebody wanting to use some of his work for postcards a long time ago. After looking at the gallery he posted, I was actually scared to try landscape shooting for a bit. They made me embarrassed. Of course I didn't have Yosemite Valley to shoot. His work was and is quite inspiring.

Congrats, Phil. Well deserved.

While I like Phil's work on his SS page, there's just something about seeing the pictures in a magazine that can't be beat.

Congrats, Phil!
