| ->> My favorite part was that the winner "must dress and act accordingly and in a professional and courteous manner while participating in this experience." I photograph numerous kids every week, and I can think of two that might be able to act professional and courteous. Many 7th and 8th graders don't know what it means to be professional and courteous. Of course, many "pro's" don't either, so I guess it fits. Here's hoping his/her credentials don't require giving up copyright to the school. |

->> I think we're overlooking an important fact....
what kinda loaner camera can they get from UNC for the game? And is it something worth trying to shove under your jacket and walking out with? |

| ->> I want to see what the university will do when a diving 6-9 power forward sends this kid into the upper deck. Can you say "Sue Blue?" I knew you could. |

But if the NCAA moves the shooters line back any further, we'll already be in the upper deck. |

->> OK, so this sounds like the autction is just another attempt to raise revenue to help boost athletic department budget dollars.
But what if it was to be presented a little differently? Let's say UNC teamed up with one of the local papers or their school journalism department to provide a mentor for the experience. The budding young journalist would spend a day with the mentor learning about shooting sports and covering camera basics. They shoot an afternoon practice session, review the photos and discuss how to improve the technique as they get ready for the big event. They also discuss what it means to be professional and what to do if that 6'-9" power forward heads his way...or better yet, how to possision him/herself to stay safe. The mentor works with the student throughout the game and then they do a post game retrospective of the student's work.
I'm a big fan of mentoring. Rather than making this soley a revenue grab, I could see how there could actually be something positive come out of this if done right. Kind of like a mini SS Academy. Am I off base? |

->> It's not money, as Phil correctly points out. It's spin and it's targeted at the parents of junior high/middle school kids.
John, you are so correct with what this could have been. And then, if you feel you have to have an auction, donate the money to the winning kids' school program along with a match from a local bank etc.
THAT would produce some serious spin. |

Could be a good concept for kids, say 12 to 18... But, I am a little nuts after all... |

| ->> The ACC now restricts the use of floor remotes. I guess now it is safer to sit a 14 year old on the floor with a loaner camera. I just hope my photo position at the game is as good as the winner of this contest. |
