Embraer 170 + Think Tank Roller

->> Does this combination work?
Typically I avoid regional jets like the plague when traveling for work, but when originally booking this segment, I wasn't going to have any gear with me so I didn't care what kind of plane I was on. Of course, things changed so now I'm stuck on an Embraer 170 with a Think Tank International roller on my flight tomorrow.
So will there be room on board to carry on the roller, or am I going to have to find an alternative packing/shipping solution? I don't want my stuff to go underneath.

->> Jerry,
Plan for the worst. It really depends on the gate agent but they typically will make you do a gate check.

->> Yeah, I know, that's why I asked.
If it makes a difference, this is going to be on one of United's "Explus" jets. They are supposedly reconfigured with bigger overhead bins. I've never flown a UA regional jet since they rolled out Explus service. I'm not expecting them to be huge, but hopefully large enough to stuff that bag in sideways. |

->> Jerry,
The TT Aifrport International should fit horizontally (not wheels in first) in the overhead of an E170/E190 with no problems. The only size issue you may face is the depth of the bag if you stuff it 'fat.' When this happens you can easily remove top items, such as a laptop to have the bag easily fit in the overhead compartment.
The E-170/E-190 is considerably larger than a standard regional jet, the overhead compartments are not that much smaller than the '2-seat' side of an MD-80/90 which is a common mainline aircraft.
You'll be fine. |

| ->> Also, E-170/E-190 aircraft generally board from mainline aircraft gates, like an 737 or Airbus A320, so you won't be walking down to the ramp as if you're boarding an E135/145 or CRJ. |

| ->> My one experience with the EMB 170 was a nice surprise. The US Air gate agent just waved me on thru and I have the bigger TT roller. No problems, it fit fine. |
