needs repair and searching for advice

->> Hey, does anyone know of a company that will buy a used camera body that is in need of repair? My Canon 30D came down with the dreaded "error 99" which I believe means shutter trouble. I can't decide whether to repair it or try to sell it as is. Any advice?

->> Are you sure it is the camera and not the grip? Try removing the grip and see if the problem goes away. There is a known issue with the grip.

->> eBay is your best bet. Just be sure to include the phrase "for parts" in the auction title. I have followed a few broken camera bodies on eBay and I am surprised at how high the bids went. Recently, a dead 30D went for $187.50 (auction no. 250336381743)

->> Preston,

An error 99 doesn't always mean major repairs. I've sent two camera bodies to Canon for estimates in which both times the shutter just needed to be realigned at a reasonable cost.

Metro Camera in Denver is a local option, but they will charge you for an estimate. Camren Photographic Resources (also in Denver) is a Canon dealer and equipment rental provider. They will sell used equipment on a consignment basis.
