| ->> I got a new laptop that came with Norton but I would like to remove it and get something different due to past problems on my other computer. Anyone have any suggestions. I am using Windows Vista. Any suggestions? |

->> Tom,
I have always and I mean always hated Norton, but I downloaded a 90 day trial of their NIS and I love it.
Barely uses any resources and it stays out of my way. |

->> Norton and McAfee are resource hogs.
I got turned onto AVG years ago and have continuously run three PC's networked with not a single issue.
It is affordable, efective, and easy to use.

| ->> Kaspersky. I bought it because it does not bog down your machine. I purchased the security suite which has an AVP and some internet security as well. |

| ->> I would agree with Matthew on Norton Internet Security (NIS). They really have done a great job with this new release and yes it does not hog the resources like prior Norton Antivirus programs did. |

| ->> Personally, I've had great luck with Trend Micro Internet Security. It provides protection from spyware as well as virus detection in a proactive way. |

->> The best antivirus software I have used hands down is NOD32. I did the 30 day trial but since I already had Norton and I was satisfied with it, I decided not to buy NOD32. It was amazing however. I haven't shopped for antivirus stuff for a while now but it seems reasonably priced.
You can install the 30-day trial here:

->> By the way I did a 30 day trial with NOD32 IS package and I really liked what they had to offer as well.
That program is not a resource hog just like the new NIS |

| ->> It has been my experience that no virus software is perfect, but I have never had a problem with Norton if installed correctly and updated regularly. It does load slowly, delays boot times, and it is a resource hog, but I stay virus-free. |

->> I used to use AVG but a couple of years ago when they started pushing their pay version by sending me constant emails I got frustrated with them and went to PCTools free version. AVG has stopped bugging people but I haven't gone back because I also use their pay product SpyWare Doctor and combine it with the AV. BTW SpyWare Doctor, while I don't run it in the background has saved my butt several times with crap that gets installing on your computer no matter how careful you are.

| ->> Symantec AV 10.2 (business edition). You can get a 5 user license for $160 on Newegg (same price I believe straight from Symantec). I'm running it on two Vista Home premium laptops (64bit and 32bit) and a copy on Windows Home Server. For my 64bit client it is a little quirky at times (for some random reason the scan engine disappears) but on my wifes 32 bit laptop she hasn't had any problems with it. No problems on the Home Server either. |
