->> I'm about to do a round of portraits and was looking to create a scratchy rusty overlay to the images. It's been awhile for stuff in Photoshop so I was hoping to pick the minds of anyone who has pulled this off. If you have examples too that would help as well.
Thanks in advance.

->> corey
there are a ton of sites out there that offer layer overlays and different grunge and distressed looks for photoshop. these are usually documents you can drag over the original photo and mess with the opacity to get the desired effect.
you could also make or find your own brushes and make your own look that way too.
yay illustration. go crazy.
maybe you know how to do all this and you are just looking for a place to find the stuff. in that case ignore the above...also im shooting wrestling for the first time ever today! |

->> Lots of stuff on deviant art: http://browse.deviantart.com/photography/#order=9&q=texture+layer
Just take some pictures of various textures (walls, metals, streets, tree bark, etc.), put it in as a layer, use different blend modes, hues, masks, etc.
Graphic Authority has this sort of thing for sale, as well as many other companies. If you buy something from Graphic Authority, do a google search for a promo code to get a discount, usually 20%. |

| ->> I can't tell you how to pull it off but Mark Tucker has a lot of examples on his website http://www.marktucker.com . Check the Jack Daniel's gallery where there are a bunch of sepia/old timey colored photos with that scratchy look to them. Theres also a lot in his Salton Sea and Personal gallery. For some of them it looks as though they were printed with a negative sandwiched between two dirty glass plates. |

| ->> Corey, I did a piece on a documentary filmmaker who shot 8mm film, then dragged it through the darkroom floor, etc., before he developed it to give it that old film scratched look. I suppose you could do the same thing with print film... |

| ->> I've seen many people who print out the pictures, make them scratchy and dirty and then make them digital again on a flatbed scanner. |
