Newsday to eviscerate photo staff

->> Newsday Photographers Told To "Re-Apply" For Visual Journalist Jobs and the staff will be reduced in size from 20 to about seven.

I don't see things getting better anytime soon.

->> from the article:

"Newsday was sold by Tribune Co. to Cablevision in May for $650, but the newspaper's losses continued under its new owners and Tribune's profits from the sale didn't stem losses at the Chicago-based company, which today is reported to be on the verge of filing for bankruptcy itself."

considering how much the paper sold for, i imagine everyone would instead be getting raises at newsday. and, it's no wonder tribune is considering bankruptcy - they could have sold the paper for a lot more money, i think.

kidding aside, i hope the newsday folks all find greener pastures somehow. most of us are headed toward those pastures - let's just hope it really is green.

->> As of yesterday, I was told the entire staff of 20 shooters is gone and that two got "rehired" for newly created multimedia positions.

As Jack mentioned, there were some really good shooters there. It will be interesting to see if the new owner's (Cablevision) emphasis on video actually pays off for them.
