->> I've got to go up to the KC area next week and was wondering if anybody up there can point me to a good photography store?
Thanks,

->> Digitallabrador.com is a highly regarded amongst the younger crowd. They have a production type environment revolving around roll printing, studio and equipment rental and they have a Mac lab with Imacon scanner just to name a few things. If you're in KC during the first Friday of the month, many places in crossroads art district have shows.
You won't find much new gear under the counter as they're more focused on output and rental. There's a shop in the north part of town called Photographix, which is geared towards small studio rental and consumer cameras. It's much more like the camera stores I grew up with, but it's not necessarily for pros.
IPAS has a reputation.
OT: Ron, don't let ACU score too many points this weekend, okay? I'd like to go back Florence for the fourth-straight trip. |

| ->> More importantly, when in Kansas City ask for good BBQ. Photo equipment can be shipped from anywhere, even to Abilene. Good Q doesn't travel well. |

(Don't tell him I'm steering him to BBQ.) |

->> Once again, Walter comes through with some of the best advice on this forum!!
And if we can get Think Tank to create the Q-roller for transporting BBQ back from road games the world would be a better place. |

->> If you don't mind a short drive, you could also head down I70 to check out Wolfe's in Topeka.

They might be the closest thing to a big camera store. If you want to handle a new Nikon or Canon, that's the place. If it's low prices you want, you'd be better off ordering from Jeff.
If you go to Topeka, skip the BBQ and order the double cheeseburger from Larry's Short Stop. It's a tasty heart attack wrapped in wax paper. |

->> Overland Photo Supply has a nice selection of Nikon & Canon gear, bags, clamps, cables, etc. The employees are very nice and helpful too.

If you need to rent gear, the terrific guys at Digital Labrador are the best in the country. They rent and sell cameras and lighting, among many other services.

John's post about IPAS....hilarious. Every day I'm mystified that they are still opening their doors, as every resident in a 200-mile radius has given up on that place. |

->> Thanks everybody. I'm looking to just browse through a store because I'd like to look at and feel a variety of small bags for my audio gear. I'm using an Edirol R-9, a Sony mic whose designation escapes me at the moment, headphones and a small, handheld mic stand. I'm keeping it all in the nylon bag the mic came with and the damn thing is just falling apart.
So, sorry Jeff, I need a physical store to do some shopping in. But of course, I'll keep you in mind, I use Adorama all the time.
IPAS, I used to go in there on occasion when I lived in KC many moons ago, I have a friend with a studio next door to him. I bought a 285HV flash from Harry when mine broke at a wrasslin' match. Oops, I think I still owe him ten bucks, I might have to drop by anyways. Can I get a lifeline?
Ah KC BBQ. I gained five pounds in June because I kept eating it when I was up there. But if we're talking Kansas City, we've also gotta talk Town Topic! Best burgers and atmosphere anywhere. Even better than In-n-Out and while that's throwing the gauntlet down, if you went there you'd understand.
Thanks again,
-Ron- |

->> PASS on IPAS. Don't even bother, man!
I agree with others that Overland Photo is probably your best bet around locally, although Photografix is a close second.
For BBQ - gotta go to Fiorella's Jack Stack - the BBQ's pretty good, but the baked beans and cheesy corn are to die for!
What are you shooting while you're here? |

->> Alas, it won't be for business. My dad is having an operation and I'll be spending about two weeks up there while he recuperates. The nearest photo store to Abilene is Fort Worth and I figured I might check out some bags and other stuff while I'm in the area.
Can't believe nobody's mentioned the Jerusalem Cafe, one of my faves, and The Corner Restaurant where I used to earn a few bucks between shooting gigs back in the day.

->> Yeah! Town Topic is amazing and classic. My Pops and I use drive downtown on sundays to have Town Topic. Try it if your in the area.
Also try:
Hayward's BBQ
Jack Stack BBQ
ZARDA BBQ
Oklahoma Joe's BBQ
Arthur Bryant's BBQ
Enjoy! |

->> NO one's even mentioned LC's? Oh the huge manatee. Grab BBQ @ LC's then head to Smokehouse for their beans. Best in town, hands down. Jerusalem Cafe is a great non-BBQ alternative.
I hope your father's procedure goes well and we recovers quickly. |

->> I feel badly for unsuspecting soccer moms that might wonder into IPAS. I guess that's one less MWC (mom with camera). The smoke cloud out to be enough to keep them away.
I spoke with Harry about a month ago and he said they'd been closed for a period of time. It wasn't clear to me what the deal why they had essentially suspended business but apparently his relationships with Nikon and Canon were needing to be reinstated so he could get his 5% wholesale discount. |

->> Hey all,
Haven't been to Blue Koi yet but I did go to Jimmy's Jigger last night, couldn't handle that hospital cafeteria food anymore. Had shrimp fettucine (half order), hush puppies and two Fat Tires. And with everybody else in the room, ignored the basketball game and watched Narnia on the TV behind the bar.
What's good at Blue Koi? I've a feeling I'll be going there tomorrow. i've already been to Jerusalem Cafe four times and Gates twice.
Haven't had time for camera store shopping, though. But my dad's doing well and hopefully will be out of here in a few days.

Head west 50 yards to d'Bronx for some outstanding pizza too. Genghis Khan is great make-it-yourself Mongolian food just two doors south of d'Bronx too. |
