->> A few years ago, I was a rank amateur with a passion for photography, but had to make do with second & third generation equipment. One weekend, I was shooting a high school hockey game just for the heck of it, and this guy came up to me, wanted to know how my photos were turning out, gave me a few tips along with his card. We got to talking, and he encouraged me to keep developing my eye.
That guy was Ed. Before I met him, I had never gotten that kind of encouragement from a professional, and it made me realize that I just might be able to do something with this hobby of mine. Over the years, I shot dozens of tournaments & a few weddings for him, and he taught me alot about what goes on behind booking a tournament & running a photo business... the kind of things that you don't learn about in school textbooks.
Due to a chance meeting at a hockey rink, a young shooter gained a great friend & a good teacher.
I'll miss you Ed.

->> This one just sucked all the air out of my office. I had just spoken to him a few weeks ago and had been planning another of our "ride home" calls.
Heartbreaking news of someone so young and with a family and bright future.
Heartbroken and a little more lonely....

->> Woah!!! Ed and I touched base off-board on a number of subjects on a semi-regular basis.
He helped me in a major way with a database project last November...no big deal for him, that's just the way he was. We'd bounce business ideas off each other, and keep the other posted on new products and marketing ideas.
I'm definitely gonna miss you Ed.

I had met Ed a few times, shot some football with him, shared dinner with him in Boston. He was funny, kind and genuine.
While we hadn't spoken in a while I'm going to miss him and I know he'll be missed.
I wish his family the best.

->> I am so shocked and at a loss. Speechless. I was just about to hit him up on twitter to see how he was doing after the surgery.
Right before I moved back to Texas this August, I spent my last Sunday in Portland with Ed photographing the races at Scarbrough Downs.
It was such a great experience. Sure he was the track photographer and made it known all around that it was okay for me to be wandering in the stables, barns and wherever else I wanted to go but because he was extremely friendly with everyone.
He loved his wife, son, family (blood and extended alike) and photography.
You will be greatly missed my friend. |

->> Oh man how sad to hear this. Like many others on here Ed and I had many conversations thru emails and on the "ride home" phone calls.
We bounced ideas off each other and occasionaly shot down the others ideas, "I don't think that would work and here is why..." You could always count on at least 2 thigs from Ed, a laugh and an honest answer or opinion.
He was truely a great individual and will be missed by all of us here.
My prayers are with his family at such a difficult time. |
