SI ran some photos of students doing it, I think ASU and I looked it up. So no, I don't think Bush would be "shocked". However, the guy on the far left has his fingers close together.

I never would have had the guts to get the President to do it...

I thought the inappropriates would stop at 15, for 15yd penalty for "piling" on. Not to be confused with consummate pro Rich Piling who has nothing to do with this thread, yet.
FWIW, I didn't give you an inappropriate and won't, unless you ask for it. You did ask for it didn't you? :-) |

I'm dumbfounded by the fact that in a message board chock full of journalists who rightfully, and vociferously promote first amendment freedoms, that so many have deemed it inappropriate for others to exercise that very right. |

->> brad, I feel I must interject this. although this message board might be "chock full of journalists" how can you say that the journalists are the one's marking the "inappropriates"?
I would venture to say there are far more members who are not journalists on this site than those who are. I agree with you that the "inappropriates" are in themselves inappropriate for jamie stating his opinion. I mean there's another poster who made a comment in the opposite direction and he only has three "inappropriates". I would actually find it pretty hard to belief anyone in the journalism field would have been petty enough to waste time with an "inappropriate". just a thought. |

->> HA HA HA, doesn't President Bush look stupid here making a sexual hand gesture. How sophomoric can you be? What the He%$ does this have to do with any important issues involving photography, other than you may not like President Bush and therefore need to make him look foolish. Please make your political statements elsewhere. Their are plenty of political message boards on the internet were this sort of thing is welcomed. Many of you on this site are supposed to be objective photojournalists. But some of you insist on posting this stupidity in order to ridicule people who's politics you don't agree with. You and your ilk are not helping with the ideals and ambitions of this web site created by and for professional photographers and those students who wish to learn from others experiences. Objective journalism is dieing in this country and some of you people are illustrating one of the reasons why.
Brad Leeb. It's inappropriate because it's disrespectful to President Bush whether or not you agree with his politics. Also, it has no value in the greater discourse of issues that are important to this industry. It's nothing more than a jab at President Bush. If it were President Elect Obama in the photo I would be saying the same thing. Good grief people, GROW UP!!! |

->> Ok...enough is enough.
There is no reason to get upset about how someone marked your forum posting. It's either an ego booster because people find you funny or informative, or you get upset about someone marking you as off topic or inappropriate. Oh, and we can't forget about the all important Huh? Meaningless folks, meaningless. Please don't lose sleep at night over how somebody marked your post! It gotten so petty on this board nowadays I sometimes wonder why I look at the threads. Maybe I just like being disgusted...I dunno.
Oh, can you sign me up for the hate mail too? My inbox is feeling kinda empty... |

And in the spirit of going off topic and tying into other threads on suggested forum improvements and anonymous emails - I would humbly suggest this gross abuse of the "inappropriate" would stop if the person issuing it had their name attached to it. |

Perhaps if the folks who run the White House web page understood the importance of a proper, informative, and complete caption, none of this nonsense would even be taking place. |

->> If Obama was making this gesture in a White House photo, we would be hearing about it on Fox news, not Sportsshooter. Remember the terrorist fist bump...can you imagine how they would handle 'the shocker?' Haha.
While this discussion thread is admittedly sophomoric, I hope there is room for photo related humor (sophomoric or otherwise) on this site, whatever your political persuasion is.
For the record, I would be laughing at this photo no matter which politician it was. In fact, I think it would be more relevant and hilarious if Clinton (Bill) was making this gesture, rather than Bush. Although it wouldn't make any sense if this photo included Idaho Senator Larry Craig.
But it just proves the danger you can get into with hand signs. One person's peace sign is another person victory sign is another person's FU. |
