Too Ship or Carry 400 Overseas?

| ->> I live in Switzerland recently purchased a used 400 from a member here and then had it shipped to a friend's house in the U.S. My plan is that when I return to the U.S. for the Xmas holiday I was going to carry it back with me as my second carry-on. Going through Customs I would just explain my situation as a U.S. resident just bringing my 400 with me to Switzerland and should have no issues. The next area of concern, my kids. I have a 7 and 11 year old and they will be with me. My fear is my 7 year old saying "but Daddy you just bought that in the U.S." to the Customs agent. My next option is shipping it here, which is no big deal. If my friend can get it wrapped up and sends it over, will I have to pay any import taxes on it? Obviously I would insure it but right now I am leaning toward the shipping option. Since I will not be living here for more than two years it seems crazy to me to pay Swiss taxes on this item, although I did not pay U.S. taxes either. I don't want to start a firestorm here, just need some friendly advice. |
